Vassar has SAT + 2 Subject Tests / Act+ Writing for both In staters and OOS / Internationals. Do I , as an international male able to pay full freight, stand any chance in getting admitted but WITHOUT submitting Subject Tests?
I'm from Greece, and the educational system is really different, and alot of the material of the Subject tests are taught in our schools at senior year, meaning the score (if i take them) would be really low and wont reflect me as a student. I even consider applying ED.

So, to sum up
I'll be taking only SAT, Vassar requires extra 2 subject tests.
Should i bother applying? or is it just instant Reject?

I tried contacting them via email, but the admission office was really really unhelpfull. They didn't answer any of my questions. They just stated some facts and gave me some unusefull links

I'm just trying to understand if colleges make similar exceptions at all

Why should they make an exception?
If your education has been so poor that after junior year, you can’t get respectable SAT II scores in two of the many subjects offered, you are not prepared for quality colleges like Vassar.

Can’t you find any 2 subject tests to take? Some students take things like Chemistry in 9th or 10th grade and take the SAT 2 then. You should be able to self study. If you want to go to Vassar (loved it, highly recommend it) , then you have to meet the admissions criteria.

Your best bet would be to call (or email) Vassar’s admissions office and find out whether there are different criteria for international students.

Elsewhere they reiterated that ALL applicants must take the SAT (reasoning) plus 2 SAT2’s (subject) or ACT + writing. Take whichever is easier, but you must do one or the other. Good luck!

Many students are in this situation… and schools have requirements for admission for a reason. Even if your school doesn’t touch on certain topics in the SAT 2s, there are resources that allow you to study those topics in advance. I know this from my own experience; for the most part, IBH Chem and IBH Physics haven’t taught me all I need for the Chem and Physics SAT 2s, so I bought some kaplan and barron’s books on those subject tests. If you really want to go to Vassar, you will make time to study and take those sat 2s. Unless you have something that is really preventing you from taking them, such as them not being offered in your area or something similar.

Basically, it’s really not in your best interest not taking SAT 2s.
