Would they ever release on a Sunday? I was surprised that several schools released on Saturday.
I don’t believe they would release on a Sunday- more likely a Saturday but since that didn’t happen I’m assuming it’ll be Tuesday or Wednesday
Can I just say “Bravo!”? Not only did you get into two fantastic schools, you also are emphasizing the importance of student culture in your college search. I have seen SO many people just choose the most prestigious school they go to, and then be miserable there because they are not a good fit! So yay!!
same, middlebury was extra tough to get into this year but i already have a selection of schools tht i love (trinity, oberlin, dickinson, union) so im not too upset about it. i rly hope i get into vassar though
I got into Dickinson, too, and would love to go there. They don’t really have my major, though. I’d immediately have to go to grad school afterwards in order to get a job, and I don’t know if that’s the best option for me. I loved the swag box they sent!
I am curious of Midd’s acceptance rate. I would guess 11-13%.
I saw that there was over 11,000 applicants for the regular decision spots. They had accepted quite a few ED and they only had ~300 spots for RD.
Wow!!!
The accuracy of this is out of this world. So many people are hung up on prestige and ranking and numbers when there’s SO much more to schools! A bunch of kids at my high school applied to schools by name – don’t get me wrong, they applied to some great schools – and then I go and look at the school because I’m like “yeah okay I’ve heard of it but idk much about it” and then I see information about the school and the culture is completely different from the kids’ personality, and the school’s values and everything are just polar opposites of what the kid was looking for in a college and just now a lot of people are being like “yeah okay I definitely should have looked more at the school” and they’re kinda screwed this year because they only applied to schools by ranking and ended up somewhere they don’t fit.
yes!!! the sunglasses and the hat look so cool and the socks are amazing. ngl i mightve been a little more sold if they sent stickers
I applied to both (got accepted to Midd), but I would probably choose Vassar over Midd. The culture there seems like such a great fit for me. Fingers crossed for Vassar for both of us!
Congrats on the acceptance to Midd! I kind of wish I had applied ED somewhere, but I never had a chance to visit a campus before Covid hit. I just didn’t know how to go about ED when I hadn’t visited to get an impression.
If Middlebury were to accept the same amount of students as last year, its overall acceptance rate for this year would be 19.4%.
That seems strange. Didn’t Midd have a 15% accept rate a couple years ago? This year they had the largest app pool yet.
Congrats on Middlebury! For me I’d also choose Vassar over Middlebury just because the people at Vassar are so full of life and a little bit goofy. Not that they aren’t serious about school, but they just seem a bit more easygoing. Don’t get me wrong, the Middlebury students were really nice, they were just a little more quiet and seemed less energetic which isn’t really my vibe.
I’m also considering Skidmore—similar vibe from what I can see to Vassar, but not as well known or hard to get in. They didn’t give me much $, though, so I don’t know if it will work out or not. I ultimately want to be a school psychologist, but I want to get my teaching degree first. I don’t know that it makes a lot of sense to put all of my money into an undergrad program for teaching, when I know I’ll have to go on to get the school psych degree.
Last year was an anomaly b/c of Covid. Midd’s acceptance rate went up a lot. Acceptance rate sees uptick to 24% amid Covid-19 uncertainties - The Middlebury Campus
Great point. Let’s all keep in mind that 24% is still pretty dang selective lol
You all seem to have a pretty good take on thee schools. Mind if I ask a few questions?
I was wondering about the acceptance of people from different socioeconomic statuses. I am from a upper middle class household, but I live in a solidly middle class area, surrounded by very rural areas of struggling people. There’s no “keeping up with each other” in terms of clothes, vacations, etc. The popular kids are based more on who your parents were in high school (many people grew up here and stayed here to raise their own families) or what sport you play. I don’t want a school full of preppy, pretentious people. I am not considering Bucknell anymore for that reason- I don’t think I’d fit in.
2nd question- I know Vassar is listed for being a great school for LGBTQ and has many more women than men. How is it for straight women, though. I’ve read so many reviews that say straight women will have a hard time finding dates because there are so many women, and not a lot of straight guys. I know you can’t always trust reviews…maybe they were written by obnoxious people who have grudges, but I’d like a chance to meet someone!
To arrive at that figure for Middlebury (19.4%) I looked back only one year and avoided any assumptions other than that they would again admit 2,307 applicants (for a class of 700 students). In this sense, this represents a math exercise more so than a prediction made by considering a wide range of factors.
