Hi guys! I was accepted to Vassar RD and might be attending (probably). I heard about the sorting hat system which sounds hogwarts-esque (very cool) and I couldn’t find any info online. Could someone explain how it works? Do all houses have their own characteristics? what are they? thank you
For you…GRYFFINDOR!!!
Based off of your housing application, the sorting hat pairs you up with roommates into certain houses. Each house has a different characteristic, but their characteristics arise because of the students, not in spite of them.
Sometimes students don’t like the house they are sorted into (e.g. their friends are in a different house, or they prefer another house’s atmosphere, etc.), so they are allowed to change rooms over the course of the year if any vacancies arise. For the most part, however, students are very satisfied with where they are sorted.
The 9 houses are Main, Strong (all girls), Lathrop, Raymond, Davison, Jewett, Josselyn (“Joss”), Noyes, and Cushing.
For now, there isn’t much to do except complete your application. You could look the houses up online, but nothing really beats coming to campus and finding out for yourself!
