So my list is pretty much narrowed down to these schools: Vassar College, Occidental College, Pomona College and George Washington University. Vassar has been my top choice for a while now and I would love to attend in the fall. However, I have not received my FinAid package yet and I am nervous about it as Occidental was the only school that said that my family has financial need. Every other school has been expecting me to be full pay. However, if things do work out (fingers crossed) my choice will be between these four schools if I am successfully able to appeal Pomonas FinAid decision. Id like opinions based on

1.)Atmosphere and student body (preppy, hipster, laid-back, intellectual)
2.)International Relations Department
3.)Theatre Program
4.)Campus Style
5.)LGBTQ Community
6.)Anything else you might consider helpful

I am about a bit preppy/a bit hipster and I enjoy shopping. I love a big city but I do not like an urban campus and would prefer a school near a big city instead of directly a part of one. Im bi so a strong gay community is important to me as Ive never had the opportunity to date while in high school. Thanks so much!

GW is very tolerant of the LGBTQ Community here. I don’t notice any hostility people tend to just do their own thing without much judgement. The international affairs school (Elliot School) is top-notch and we are the most conveniently located school in the entire country when it comes to international organizations. You can walk to various embassies and even the State department from campus. There seems to always be theatre plays/shows being advertised pretty much every month. check collegefashionista’s website and look up GWU to get a sense of our style. Notice it’s classy/preppy (Gucci,Uggs, LV, Longchamp) with a good number of hipsters.

I went to grad school at GWU. It is a good school, but not a great school and surely not in Pomona’s league. Also, the campus is VERY URBAN. While it is close to most fun areas of DC, it is between the government buildings on one side and the law firms and business area on the other. On the positive side, DC is a pretty good city if you are gay.

Washington, D.C. is a gorgeous city. I have seen very many cities in the world, and I would rank Washington, D.C. (specially where GW is located) in the TOP in terms of convenience & beauty. GW is located near the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, IMF, The World Bank, The White House, a number of embassies, etc. These “urban” buildings are beautiful in international standards.

As to GW, it is a GREAT school! Mention GWU in the international circles (multi-national companies, international firms, etc.), you need not say more because the name is readily recognizable worldwide. Unfortunately, it has become very difficult to get into with about 3 out of 10 acceptance rate out of approx. 21, 500 applications from around the world and all 50 U.S. states & its territories (check the web & The Hatchet online, GW’s school newspaper). It is an internationally savvy school, in terms of culture & intellect.
