Veale Center Weight Rooms

Hello everyone, I’ll be attending Case Western as an undergraduate this fall. I have one question for current students about the Veale Center. How would you rate the weight rooms at the Veale Center for someone who is really into fitness and strength sports? I’m not trying to become the world’s strongest man or anything but I do want to make sure that I’ll be able to continue getting stronger during college. And if you’d say the Veale center isn’t all that great, what would you say about other gyms in the area, such as One to One Fitness?

Thanks!

Veale pretty has pretty much everything you need. Same for Wyant. Wyant’s a little bit nicer with newer equipment, but other than that, they both get the job done.

Veale Center has a newly renovated weight room (three separate rooms, main, power lift and hammer strength)

@bopper @SwallowingCorn There is also a newer weight room, and Rec center, opened in 2013, at the football field that my son used, when he lived on 115th street as a junior and senior. The newer Wyant Field House is open to all Case students for weight lifting. Its closer to North Residential campus for freshman too. Wyant Field house, is much closer for undergrads, unless you are living on South Residential campus, then Veale is closer.

I’m a current student-athlete. I spend a ton of time in Wyant and Veale and think they’re great! I do pefer Veale, but I’ll list some details for each:

Veale:

  • Everything under one roof - lifting platforms, squat racks, weight machines, free weights, cardio equiptment, pool, indoor track, basketball/ volleyball/ tennis courts, ergs, spin room, rock wall, dance studio, and more
  • Locker rooms - as a varsity athlete I get a permanent locker but all students can bring their own lock to use the lockers (or pay to rent one for a semester) and there’s showers for everyone.
  • Laundry loops - there’s laundry service for varsity athletes at Veale or Wyant. For my sport, it’s at Veale.
  • It’s bigger than Wyant
  • It’s on the quad, so it’s normally less busy than Wyant. Also it’s easy to lift and shower in the morning and then I’m right next to my academic buildings
  • It has everything I need to complete my lifting program. For example, I need bands for some jumping exercises but they’re not available in the right thickness at Wyant
  • There’s ample room - I rarely have to worry about how much space my circuit is taking up

Wyant:

  • It has pretty much everything you need to do a lift or cardio workout. The first floor has cardio equiptment, weight machines, and a small area with mats and medicine balls. The basement has squat racks, lifting platforms, free weights, and kettlebells.
  • It’s located right next to the track/ The Village which is convenient if you live on northside.
  • It’s pretty much brand new
  • There aren’t locker rooms or showers unless you’re on the football, soccer, baseball, or softball team.
  • It’s smaller and is located right next to the majority of Case’s dorms - I’ve had to wait for a squat rack on multiple occasions at peak hours.
  • If you hate the Patriots, you might not like the fact that Bill Belichick donated the money for the weight room lol

Overall, there’s no reason you’d need to pay for a 121 membership unless you’re looking for professionally taught yoga or spin classes! While I’ve never competed in strictly lifting, I’ve been lifting for other sports for 9 years now and I’ve never felt that Case’s facilities are inadequate in any way!

Thanks for the responses, everyone!
