A lot of my ECs are unusual, so I'm a bit worried that they will be flagged to be verified. I have no problem providing documentation, but my GC doesn't know about most of my activities or not enough to provide documentation. Will colleges contact me directly?

Very unlikely that they would contact you. You could set up a meeting with your GC to review your application and go over the details in case the GC is called.

Well then how would they try to verify everything? Most of my activities do show up in a google search if you know exactly what to search for and are willing to go through a few false positives.

I might be imagining this but I could have sworn that I heard when you’re selected by the UCs to be spot-checked, they contact you and have you submit proof for certain things in your app?

The chances that Adcomm will time to start googling stuff and check on each candidate is very remote. They have so much work and limited time. If something flags their attention, then they will do try and validate. Usually what a candidate says can validated from references, GC etc. If they need a portfolio or some sort of work you have done, they will ask for it then and send it to the appropriate reviewer. But that is pretty limited.

If you claim in your EC’s that it can be found on the web, possibly they may do that but you have to given them the links etc. They are not going to and get it themselves. Not sure what your EC’s but if you claim you are champion swimmer, you would show what awards you won as cross check. If you claim you are top musician, then there must some recognition somewhere and so on.

If you feel necessary you can have an additional recommendation from a person who knows about your EC’s (there has to be someone who can do that). You can also write about it in your essays, so if you feel that you need to draw attention to it, you need to do it. I would not hold my breadth expecting that the school will call me to verify. Hence you need to be proactive, if you feel they will discount your EC’s without proof.

sure do; see [Do Colleges Verify Information in Applications? - Ask The Dean](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/dean/archives/000323.htm)

No single person knows about all my ECs except for myself. Why would they? I don’t go around bragging about my ECs…should I have?

Should I include links to proof in my activity list in the additional information section?

No need. They place only a minute amount of weight anyways, to be frank. No one is going to verify

If they really have questions, they will contact you. If you have links no harm in providing them. The UCs have gone to a random check – they choose a certain percentage of apllications at random and check those and your chances of being checked are the same as the random percentage chosen (assumed to be just under 10%). Frankly, most schools don’t check.
