I know the probs I posted are ridiculous things. But still, I made mistakes on them. So, I suck at both math and reasoning then.
Btw, I’m an international. So, I’ve never taught math in English. That’s why.

oh i see your problem now. sorry for that.

btw im an int’l too. i live in india. but ive been taking all my classes in english ever since i joined school.

and no i dont think you suck at anything. you just fall into the pitfalls. i really hope you make it.

It’s okay If you are an Indian, you must be good at math. At least, that’s what I heard.

Plus, the last time I did math was 4 or 5 years ago. So, I had to start from the very beginning, review all the basics, etc…Kinda complicated, but still it’s true.

well i have never heard indians are inherently good at math. rather what i usually hear is my teacher saying that we are all crappier at math than anyone else she has ever met.:D

yeah right. for sat 1 at least you need a good foundation to rely on. but nothing more than that.

Well, I had an Indian friend. He always used to tell the Indians are good at math and would say that all the math classes he’s taking in college were ridiculous. So… Or else, your teachers are never satisfied with you guys. That’s why.

well i would say ancient indians were very very very(add many more times) very good in mathematics. do you know vedic mathematics? they used to hide their complex mathematical algorithms in their religious books called the vedas. i have got a book on vedic mathematics lying around somewhere. using the algorithms mentioned there you could find the value of 1/49 in a jiffy, without using paper and pencil. you could find out the square of 44567 in 30 seconds, and all such amazing tricks. i am not adept at them though. did you know it was the ancient indians who invented the number system and created an amazing number called zero. of course the world believes the arabs invented zero, but in reality the arabs stole the concept from us and sold it to the western countries. calculus was invented in india too.

what im telling is that this is all ancient history. today’s indians are no more better than others
than any other guy like they used to be.

The vedic math sounds so great. I’ve never heard any of those things. But I always used to think you guys were good at math or else like intellectual just because many Indians work at very prestigious organizations or sth.
Ah well, you are an Indian, you must know better about yourselves.
So, thanks for the help :)

Its nothing like that. Basically it has to do with determination and intelligence.

Intelligence is a genetic thing, and most humans are not VERY intelligent, Indians are no exception. Unlike some other subjects highschool level Mathematics does not require high level of intelligence (the amount that is required in SAT is at most the level required for the question in this topic).

So what makes Indians better at Math than students from other countries in general? Its determination. Math is not an art form, its a solid subject that can be improved on by practice at an almost directly proportional rate.

Where does this determination come from? The average upbringing a child receives in Asia is one that emphasis greatly on the importance of grades and hard work as compared to any other part of the world.

So you can ‘do the Math’ yourself, it has nothing to do with Indian ancestors.

scroll back @MickyS i never said indians were inherently good at math. i had rather contradicted him. so you never had the right to point a finger at me. and do you dare challenge vedic math too?

Took the words right out of my mouth, MickyS.

and yeah @eatlovepray feel free to post any problem you have regarding math. ill try and solve them for you if i could solve it myself:D
