VERY low SAT and ACT scores with ok GPA.Impossible to get into college?

@OspreyCV22 This explains why I have such a bad SAT score at 1610, but have a weighted GPA of 4.38 and ranked 35/512 in my class. While my friend is ranked 50-something and has a 1900 score. Would California public schools give my SAT a pass because I am first generation? (I’m half black and white by the way)

I’m not at all sure how things are calculated in CA but many schools give a lot of leeway to minority students and first generation students. IMO it’s better to have good grades and low tests than to have low grades and good tests because it looks like the test smart kids are lazy. Good luck.

How about community college?

California public schools banned affirmative action so ethnicity/URM will not help with lower than average test scores. Outstanding essays and EC’s may have an impact at the UC’s.

What is the OP’s class work like, and is the GPA weighted or unweighted? Also what are some EC’s that you do.

I don’t think TCNJ is “test optional” other than school of Art .

I would recommend community college.

also TCNJ weights heavily class ranking in addition to gpa.

It’s unweighted

Sorry I’m not giving up. I do not plan to attend community college at this point. Probably start off with reach colleges or colleges that accept low test scores and transfer to a bigger college I’ve been dreaming off but most people who go to community college don’t graduate. Graduation from college is not an option for me and my standards it’s a requirement.

The first thing I noticed after reading your post was that your grammar is horrible. I hope that’s not how you actually write, otherwise that would explain your low test scores in reading/writing. Next up, an unweighted GPA of 3.88 and a 1300 SAT simply don’t match up. Even a 1600 SAT is considered low for someone with a 3.88 GPA unfortunately.

Try going to a local university that has a high acceptance rate, and if they accept personal statements, say in there why you are a good student, and explain why your test scores are so awful.

You’re right not to give up, but you need to find universities where you have a shot at admissions AND at financial aid.
From thispoint on, focus on test-optional schools.
Did you look at the ones I’d listed - Dickinson, Brandeis, Bryn Mawr, Loyola Maryland, UScranton, Goucher, Providence, WPI? Which ones did you like? if you liked them all (they’re all quite likable :p) did you run the Net Price Calculator?
