Seemingly, he had everything going for him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. RIP Gregory.

My niece came from the same high school as this gloriously promising young adult. She is, like he was, a Wells Scholar, a musician, an athlete, (not to mention gorgeous!) …and very likeable. I also attended this boy’s high school, and still work near it. His story just feels far too close to home…with so many of our children attending IU this next year.

I am just so flabbergasted that I have no words that make any sense. I am SICK SICK SICK for this poor child’s family. I cannot imagine the pain…but I know it will never heal.

We’ll probably never know what caused this restless soul to commit this act, and there were surely (perhaps undiagnosed) mental health issues for this to happen. But…who among us doesn’t fear that we too (or, our children!) have “issues”? It’s such a “trying” time of life. Sometimes the signs are glaring…but so often they’re not.

I wish “recovery” to the family, the school community, and anyone else touched by this loss.

I agree R12- this death hits too close to home for many reasons. Such a tragic loss for so many reasons.

The local paper had a nice opinion piece that said many of the things I spoke to my daughter about last weekend. I think some of it bears repeating. Please understand that his time of year is very stressful for students, probably more so than the final weeks of the fall semester. With spring comes some great weather in Bloomington, Little 500, other events, and it becomes really hard to focus. Seniors are also concerned about jobs and graduating. Freshman are beginning to realize they will soon be back home and will miss the friends and lifestyle they’ve come to know over the last 9 months or so.

Students need to remember to look out for one another, and to know that there are some fantastic resources at IU and in Bloomington if they should need help. Please seek these resources out. Although young adults may want to try to handle a friend’s situation on their own, there is nothing wrong with seeking help from an RA or the Health Center.

This is the second suicide by an IU undergrad this year (at least that I recall). I hope it’s the last for a very long time.

is it true other students have died at indiana university this year? that’s scary…

^ Yes, if I’m not mistaken, another kid passed away the same week as the kid who committed suicide. I think the cause of death was due to an apartment fire.
