Very short interview, what are my chances?

I applied to one of the top all-girls boarding school.

I am a international student, and the deadline for international students was back in early Jan. Unfortunately, my decisions on applying to a boarding school got super late so I had a consultant that helped me with my applications and he emailed this school if I can still apply even though it’s late… so anyways I still got the chance to apply to this school pass the deadline by almost a month… (first round, but with a delay on my decisions)

Some info

  • No FA (full pay)
  • No VISA needed (I heard that international students have a early deadline because of the VISA)

my interview was 15 mins, it was scheduled 15mins at the first place and the interviewer seemed to be in a rush + just reading a list of questions. The interviewer also didn’t send a follow-up email after the interview…(maybe she will soon, the interview was just few days ago)

The interview it self was quite positive, she did make some positive comments during the interview…
do I still have a chance? Or is this a bad sign?

I suspect the interviewer is buried in regular admissions work for hundreds of other applicants and scrambled to fit you in. I think it was great the school let you in late and allowed an interview, it shows some flexibility.

I wouldn’t read too much into it. Just send a very detailed thank you note with a list of what you discussed. Your interviewer might forget facts!

You don’t have to over think about it and bother yourself too much, it is not under your control.

Even at many top schools, the regular schedule for interviews is about 15 - 20 minutes, so it was normal for you. Also, interview is only one of the small parts, it’s all about your entire application package.

I agree that you should not worry. It made me nervous reading on this forum about other students having longer interviews, but my older ds who ended up at one of the well known boarding schools had a short interview as well. My middle ds who is going through this application cycle as well, had brief interviews (15-20 minutes).
