Hi all,
I am a 20 year old active duty service member considering heading to full time college at the end of my contract in 2019. Obviously, I plan on applying for the Fall 2019 semester.
My stats are 30 college credits, 3.7 college gpa, and a 30 act (non-superscore).
Reach schools: Uchicago, Harvard, Stanford, Northwestern
Reasonable schools: USC, Emory, Cornell, Brown (Rue), NYU
Supposed Safeties: Georgia tech, Columbia (GS)
If anyone has any experience or advice on this kind of transition, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
What is your intended major? Your ACT is a bit low for the reach schools and I am not sure that what you call safety schools are really safeties. Typically the most selective schools have a lower admission rate for transfers students. Your GPA is a strong point and the fact that you are a veteran is also good. I would recommend choosing some less selective schools with the major you want as safeties.
my intended major is biology or biochemistry. And yeah my act is pretty low for those schools. As far as the safety schools, I only view tech as a safety because they have a transfer pathway program for vets that pretty much guarantees admission for vets as long as they complete the required prereqs. Columbia GS is also pretty much made for vets like me. thanks for your input though, I might apply to clemson or uga as a safety.
What was your previous college?
Google: “service to school” and sign up – non-profit by vets, for vets, that has helped hundreds of veterans navigate your exact question. Check out Penn-LPS as well for a Columbia like program w/less debt load.
Stanford and Princeton admit very few transfer students, but do emphasize non traditional students including veterans among those whom they do admit. But they should be seen as reach for all.
Did you end up getting out or did you reenlist?
