I recently read an article on Vice that was very critical of Columbia University and I was wondering if any current students or alumni could respond about it?

Well, that's a pretty stupid essay on multiple different levels. He's entitled to his own opinion, as everyone else. And even in proxy, I would Not care to try to change the mind of someone who is so full of their own self worth, while denigrating others. I would be curious to see what others who knew him thought of him. Did they think he didn't deserve to be there, as he feels about other? Did they think he was fake and pretentious, as he thinks about others? How many of them thought that he was the shallow person in the room?
But I will say this: Columbia, and any Ivy, is not for everyone. But for the right person, Columbia is truly a wonderful place. It goes to show that the AdCom has a very tough choice in sifting through the thousands of people who are qualified on paper. They are trying to make a balanced Class full of people who will: #1) benefit from graduating from Columbia (just about everyone), and #2) will be happy to be at Columbia (a smaller subset) and #3) will affect the world for the better and by doing so, bring glory to Columbia (an even smaller subset). We can see that the AdCom has failed on points #2 and #3 with this one. Ahh, you can't win them all.
PS. The Mattress Girl episode is the biggest hoax forced upon NYC since Tawana Brawley. But I’m sure this person swallowed whole the PC line, without any questions.
