Any advice on best places to stay or eat during a winter visit to Grinnell?

Eat lunch/dinner at The Phoenix (middle eastern resturant in an old house south of campus). :)

btw, we didn't know of it until we visited the town but Grinnell has one of the best examples of architecture by Louis Sullivan (formative to Frank Lloyd Wright), a splendid little "jewel box" bank just a block from campus. Very beautiful and well worth a peek -- go in so you can see the stained glass.

STAY AT THE CARRIAGE HOUSE! it's this awesome bed and breakfast.
this restaurant called bourbon street is really good too.

Thanks for the restaurant advice! DH and S2 made reservations at the Carriage House a few days ago for a prospie visit in April.

A little more on restaurants. Chung Garden has the better Chinese food of the two Chinese restaurants, the Thai restaurant is good and the Mexican one adequate. The Italian food is lacking-the pizza is disappointing in the eyes of my family and the meals fairly blah. The Phoenix, as mentioned, is quite good. We found the food in the dining hall to be superior to many of the other restaurants and ended up eating breakfast there most mornings. The B and B's fill quickly so we missed that experience. There are great pastries in Pella if you are up for the drive. I found the coffee shops to be a bit disappointing. However, I live in a college town with many good shops so my taste might be a bit picky.

wait don't go to the thai food restaurant tho (if you've ever had good thai)...altho maybe i'm a thai food snob but i thougt it was bad.
