Visit and tour

I just received an acceptance letter from SUNY Bing several days ago, and now I am thinking about visiting the campus for Spring Break. I am from Mississippi, and I have no idea how to get there. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am thinking about flying to NYC and taking a bus there. On their website, they suggest Greyhound or Short Line Bus. Which one is better? Where are the bus stations? How do I get to the school from the station? Are there taxis in Binghamton? If I want to stay overnight, are there any hotels around the university? Is it safe to go out in Binghamton at night? Thanks for answering my questions. :D

Binghamton is about three hours from NYC. There may be airports in Pennsylvania you could fly into and be closer. I’m not sure. Congrats on your acceptance.

If you can, fly into Syracuse and take the bus down…about an hour…

I understand that Syracuse might be closer, but flight tickets are a lot cheaper from Jackson to NYC. Actually, the main concern here is the distance between the bus station and the university. How can I get to the university from the bus station?

Jackson doesn’t have direct flights to NYC. You would have to get a connecting flight anyway, so it probably wouldn’t be that much more to fly to Syracuse. Is Syracuse any closer? Binghamton’s not very close to anything, it would be like flying into Biloxi and bussing it to Greenwood. Sorry I can’t be of more help. Call the University and they might be able to help you.

I see… Are there taxis in Binghamton?

“Is Syracuse any closer?”…it’s about an hour…and to the OP, the bus station is downtown; probably a $10 taxi but the admissions office would be able to answer that question with more accuracy…

Delta flies from Jackson, Miss to Syracuse with one stop…$321 on Kayak search…fyi

1) flying into syracuse would probably be much easier than flying into nyc – my guess is that it’d probably be easier and cheaper to get from the airport in syracuse to the bus stop in syracuse than it would be in nyc.

2) be sure to check binghamton’s weather before you go – it is likely to be colder than you are used to.

3) Binghamton University is actually in the suburb of Vestal (the bus you’d take from syracuse stops in Binghamton, you can then take a cab to campus or a motel in Vestal) – there are many motels along Vestal Parkway, the main street that the school is located on – some could even be considered to be in walking distance - there are also both campus and municipal buses that could probably get you to and from campus closer to a motel along Vestal Parkway. you would not want to stay in Binghamton proper. there are also a ton of fast food places along Vestal Parkway.

4) call the admissions office – and ask to speak to someone specifically about you being an OOS applicant – they are trying to encourage OOS – maybe they’ll be able to offer you some more help than they usually need to provide for in-state applicants – explain just how far you are traveling and see if they can help.

Fly to Binghamton (BGM) its worth the extra $100 RT! Avoid NYD if possible. Actually I checked flights and I came up with a $63 RT difference between BGM and NYC. Airtport is less than 1/2 hr from BU! Very nice area from the air…beautiful!

There are lots of Taxis. I usually use Yellow Taxi (607) 722-2322.
