Visit Question

SUNY Bing might be a good fit for my son, and he wants to visit. We live about 5 hours away but happen to be driving about an hour away from Binghamton at the end of August. Unfortunately, the admissions office is closed then, so there are no tours or information sessions offered when he will be relatively nearby and can visit without taking time off from work.

Would my son be missing out if he visited without going through the tour and admissions presentation? I believe many students will be on campus moving in while we are there, so he could get a glimpse of student life. Is it worth driving two hours out of our way, compared to visiting when the admissions office is open, which entails (because of transportation issues) missing at least one day of work and possibly two?

I think that going with a tour guide, and seeing a presentation and all, will affect your view of the University. Is there anybody that you know who currently goes to Binghamton? A family friend, or the like that could show you around? This would be a good compromise between the two options here.

When in August, because as far as I know the office is open Monday through Friday and you and your son can pick up a self-guided tour pamphlet. It is definitely a good idea to take a guided tour though if you can.
