How many bands does UR get to campus each semester and who are some of the bands that have recently played on campus or does the university offer cheap tickets for any events held in the city or any other nearby cities?

dgm, from 2001-2005, we had Pat McGee Band, Guster, Fugazi, and Maroon 5 play on campus (in the greek theatre and the Robins Center). We had just one big show a year, but there were weekly bands on Thursday nights in the Cellar, the on campus bar. Carbon Leaf played it a couple of times when I was in school. Going to those shows is a good way to get exposed to a lot of new music. There are also a good number of acts that come through town, or within an 1 1/2 hr. drive (John Paul Jones arena, DC, VA Beach).

This is a bit late in coming, since this post was made in April, but I wanted to include some ideas for anybody perusing like myself. The city of Richmond has some great music venues, from the National to Landmark Theater. Both of these venues attract big name tickets on a very regular basis. While these venues are not on UR campus, the students I have met from UR are often provided transportation if they don’t have a car or a friend with a car. Richmond also has a great local music scene, with tons of live shows every night of the week all over a district called the Fan. Open mic nights, to salsa lessons, to groove and funk bands. Good times!

To echo what RVA had to say, I recently saw Snoop at the National (great venue to see a show). That same week, Papa Roach played, as did Gavin Rossdale (of Bush fame). O.A.R., flobots and Jack’s Mannequin were there a couple of weeks before that. Looking at their schedule, they’ve got some pretty good acts coming this summer and fall, although nothing I’d probably head to.
