Just wondering if visiting a college/university will help your chances of admission. A lot of the schools that I like are on the other side of the country so I cant make a trip to do a campus visit (for financial reasons). So yea, will this at all hurt my chances? I have heard a lot of people say that visiting colleges is good because you get a chance to show them you are very interested. Thanks.

No, as long as you are in contact with the schools you are fine. This being said, if there are any schools within around an hour of where you live you really should visit (I personally am visiting all schools within a five hour radius though).

How would I be in contact with the school? Like replying to emails they send and asking for brochures? Or is there something else that would be better? Oh and the schools around me are safeties so I am not really to interested in touring.

Sign up for their mailing list and send a quick email to your regional admissions rep expressing your interest in the school and asking them a few questions (with answers to easily found online, that are also school specific). If the local schools are safeties be sure to visit (even if you don’t want to). Schools that should be safeties are known for rejecting students with high stats because they assume that they will go somewhere else and want to protect their yield rate.

It really depends in the school. I would suggest looking at the Common Data Set of the schools you are interested in- most, but not all, post this information, and it can be googled. Check in section c7, and you can see what each individual college looks at in the admissions process- use it as a guide to help you, but not as the end all be all of admissions decisions.

Check your college counseling office to see if any of those schools will be visiting your school/area or will be represented at a regional college fair. Make sure you go and sign in/ talk with the rep. Contact your regional admission rep- found on each school’s website- and ask if they will be in the area doing info sessions/interviews or if local alumni will conduct interviews…

Thank you guys for all of the responses. My school hosts a lot of college reps every year so I will have a chance to go meet with them and talk to them.
