Assuming I get into my other two choices (NYU, Wesleyan) in addition to where I've already gotten in (WashU), the biggest thing now is visiting all three.

Parents/Students - do most of you just drive? It seems to be the cheapest way after considering the cost of plane tickets and renting a car at each destination. Kinda hoping to knock out all three in one trip, though I may go to NYU and Wesleyan on my own and then my parents may go with me to WashU afterwards.

Considering the price of gas, it might not always be cheaper, if you live far. For NYU, there is NO circumstance for why I would rent a car; it is well worth paying the extra dollars for a Manhattan hotel room than to try to drive and park in New York.

how a/b the other two only? I may not be checking NYU out anyways, depending on the FA package they give you.

We took a week long trip to Ohio and NE PA last year, visiting 5 schools in 5 days. Visiting one school in the morning and then driving to the next school was doable as long as it was within 200 miles. We stayed at a motel for the night and visited the next school in the morning. Most of our afternoons on the trip were spent in the car, but at least we were at the next school that night and we only had to eat breakfast and check out of the motel in the morning.

You are in TX so I'd definately take a plane trip to both NYU and Wesleyan. They are within a days drive of each other, but don't try to visit both in one day. WashU is at least 3 days from NY-Conn. I agree you won't need a car in NYC, just to drive to Conn.

You might want to drive to St. Louis from TX.

thanks for the comments.

Check into whether Amtrak goes to Wesleyan, and skip the car completely. We took the train from Brown to NYU and were very happy to have such an easy trip. There's even an Amtrak discount that gives a free ticket to a parent accompanying a high school junior or senior who is visiting college: promotion code H647.

wow thanks I didn't think of checking that out.

The biggest problem I'm having though is that the plane ticket to NYC (or Hartford) from Houston is a whopping $400 - one way! Add to that an Amtrak ticket or a rental car and the inescapable cost of a hotel and it's going to get very expensive to visit just these two schools. I've yet to even take into consideration the cost of visiting WashU.
