I was wondering what other people's experience with visiting Fordham was like. My D, who is a junior wishing to major in BFA, has zero interest in any aspect of the college except for the theatre department. She doesn't care about the campus or dorms, etc. Fordham, however, requires that you take a tour of the whole university, and doesn't offer a tour or information session of the theatre department. Someone from admissions told me that our tour guide might be from the theatre department or if not, would be friends with someone in the theatre department, and could surely answer our questions. Right, I thought...

Fordham also only has tours during the school year so I need to schedule a day off school for this tour. The admissions office gave me the name of someone in the theatre department that I could e-mail and ask questions before we plan to take the tour. So far, three emails and no response. I do not want to travel there without these basic questions answered first.

Was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience?

We visited Fordham-Lincoln Center during the summer. They also held at least one Saturday Open House in the fall. If you live a considerable distance, they probably won’t hold you to the requirement. Otherwise, you should be able to arrange something. I don’t know what sort of field interviews and auditions they conduct. Have you contacted Fordham-LC’s admissions office?

We toured Fordham in August last year - set up in advance online. It was a great experience - started off with a video presentation and comments from University officials and later broke off into a small group (all BFA applicants) hosted by a current student (BFA Theatre major) and toured the entire campus/dorm and even introduced to current faculty member. Later had a chance to talk to admissions staff and ask questions. Very thorough, informative, upbeat and positive experience. They are selling their school to you and they did a very good job - I was impressed by the core curriculum requirements for all students.

It is an auditioned BA. My daughter just finished her freshman year there. In her opinion, the quality of the actors is very high. Because it is a BA, there are more academic requirements than at a BFA school.

A small point of info: the dance major is a BFA, but theater majors do the BA.

Yes, Fordham was not really on my daughter’s short list until she did the visit/tour, and then it jumped to her top choice.
