My S is a rising junior and is looking at the MT program. Should he participate in a lesson with a voice teacher despite wanting MT? Any thoughts???
My daughter and I visited UofM last fall. We met with one of the MT profs, sat in on an MT class, and met with a voice prof. It was a good visit, and we learned a lot – though we did not include her getting an actual lesson. Truth be told, the voice prof asked my daughter to sing something and we were embarrassed to not have something ready! (This was near the beginning of our re/search process. Live and learn!)
That being said, we learned that at UofM the MT students take voice lessons from both the voice faculty and MT faculty. So I think a lesson with a voice prof would be time well spent.
My son has been working on a classical piece to prepare for the meeting… I’m wondering if he should prepare more of a MT piece as well.
