Visiting Princeton on a Sunday?

This summer, I will be visiting some colleges on the east coast. The way my schedule works out, I will only be able to visit Princeton on a Sunday when guided tours are not offered. I can't seem to find any self-guided tours on the Princeton website.

Any advice on the best way to get a feel for the campus, academics, and student life without a guided tour? Any idea where I can find a self-guided tour?

Thanks for any assistance. I am definitely interested in Princeton so it's kinda disappointing that I won't be there on a day where tours are offered.

Since you’re seeing the campus in summer, you won’t really get a feel for the student life or heartbeat of the campus. What you will see is a large, virtually empty beautiful campus. Heck, even when in session, the large campus is never teeming with students (unlike Columbia [much smaller campus] or Harvard [so many tourists all the time]).

Walk through the buildings; if youre interested in science or engineering look at the wall hangings detailing research projects; if you happen to see an open door with a prof, inquire if he/she has time to talk a bit about campus life, student issues, etc.

Even during the summer, when school is out, a creative approach on a visit can yield dividends and insights which are not readily apparent when taking the canned tour and obligatory admissions gathering.
