Thanks everyone! I think I just kind of needed to talk it through to see that it makes more sense to wait, as much as patience is not my strong suit I’m just kind of bummed because until a month ago it seemed like audition season was going to be the first semi-normal thing in this whole process, and then suddenly it wasn’t, either. But I can’t make things normal by wishing! I’m mentally preparing myself to give up my spring break plans in favor of college visits. Either I don’t get to go and that means he got in a few places or he doesn’t get in many schools and at least we’ll have the spring break trip to make us feel better!
I would not have expected it to be a faux pas to visit after the audition but before the decision. So, good thing I read this forum! Is it also “inconsiderate” to go on a tour of a school you have been admitted to ED but did not have the chance to visit?
@hifidelity , most schools do (pretty good) events for admitted students. While they are largely intended to help the RD student make a decision, there are often ED students in attendance as well. At some schools, they include an overnight visit.
But I would do this kind of visit – which you can contact the school about for dates and sign-up information – over the general tour aimed at giving students encouragement to apply. Your goal is a bit different – to taste the environment and get info on options that will be available to you.
Good luck to your son! I don’t know about the other schools, but my DD has been accepted ED to Blair. We are planning a trip to visit the campus (was scheduled for last week, now rescheduled for March) and even though she is already accepted, they are not allowing her into the building. Her professor is meeting with us outside or at another location. Just wanted to let you know that the in person lesson might not be possible even after acceptance.
ah, interesting! I noticed that they put in-person lessons back on the website as an option in the fall, but I wondered if they were really still doing them during omicron.
Following up on this because I just sat through a “virtual welcome session” for auditioning students at Oberlin, and at the end they assured everyone that they’re doing in person tours and lessons (even though all auditions are online) and encouraged everyone to come and visit. So. I don’t know! Perhaps the etiquette around it is different in the covid age. I think we’ll wait regardless, but just wanted to let everyone else who’s in the same position know what at least one conservatory is telling people.
I was at that Oberlin virtual presentation as well. I understand why they did remote auditions but I wish we had had an excuse to visit because my daughter hadn’t been to campus (I’ve been with with her older brother)
