Visual Arts at Brown?

Hi can someone tell me about the Visual Arts program at Brown? I know they offer concentrations but what about majors?

I’m interested in pursuing graphic design, like working on the computer using Adobe programs. Do they have any programs or even classes involving graphic design?

At Brown, “concentration” is the term for what’s called a “major” at most other schools.

The VA department is excellent. Google is your friend: you should research it on the Visual Art department page of the Brown University web site. My daughter was a VA concentrator and loved it. She also took a couple of courses at RISD which was a bit difficult because of different schedules, but very much encouraged.

i wouldn’t go to brown for graphic design. the department is very good, but it’s kind of split between a fine art with a capital “f” half and a fighting but dominated experimental/multidisciplinary half. RISD is however a good resource in respect to graphic design if you are choosing between similarly situated visual arts programs (which many small university programs are)

taking classes at RISD is hardly encouraged as a departmental or university wide practice, but definitely doable.
