Viterbi Student Awarded Goldwater Scholarship

Richelle Smith, a junior in the Viterbi School of Engineering, was named a Goldwater Scholar this week. She is majoring in electrical engineering. Richelle has been active and an officer in various engineering organizations. Her accomplishments include research projects at USC and Stanford. Her goal is to earn a Ph.D. in electrical engineering.

Two Marshall Scholars have already been named at SC this semester and eleven spring Gilman Scholars.

USC Ph.D. candidate, Safiya Sinclair, has received the 1016 Whiting Award for Poetry. Only ten of these are awarded. It includes a $50,000 prize. She is a candidate in the Dornsife School.

Ms. Sinclair was awarded the 2015 Lilly Poetry Fellowship as well as the Prairie Schooner Book Prize.
