Can anyone help me get a handle on the vocal professors at these 5 colleges?

pplake, there's an earlier thread with a few Gettysburg comments here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/177607-sunderman-conservatory-gettysburg.html?highlight=gettysburg

Also, from your similar post in one of the other forums here, I remember you asking about SMU (Southern Methodist University) yet here you state SU, which some may take as Shenandoah University (Shenandoah Conservatory). It might be helpful if you clarify.

Syracuse University & James Madison in Harrisonburg , VA

My daughter has auditioned at both these schools. We both had a very favorable impression at SU (in contrast to the less than positive first impression). THe faculty members that day, both that heard her sing and the others from the voice dept. that were around, were very nice, friendly, positive and put her at ease. It was her first audition, the intention being just to "practice" before the ones at the schools she liked. However, her experience that day has put SU in the running, should she be accepted. The curriculum is similar to everyone else's and the University has a lot to offer (my S. is an Engineering grad).
At Ithaca last week, I was very impressed by the faculty. They were there at registration actively searching out students from their departments (student's name and instrument on their name tags) and "chatting them up". At the voice dept Q&A, there were eight faculty (2 each voice part), just from that 30 min. or so I felt that D. would be well-served with any of them. The town is nice, facilities are beautiful and I know a couple of kids from our area who have gone there and love it. I don't know if we are supposed to use names here or not, I will pm you with a couple that have been recommended.

This is just me venting--! Ithaca was one of my son's top choices back when he was assembling the schools he would apply to. He is a jazz guitar player, and though he really sees himself at a stand alone conservatory, Ithaca seemed like a great choice to give him the option of a college community along with an exceptional music experience. Well, good thing he called early in the Fall to ask a minor question because they told him they weren't even auditioning jazz guitars this year because the teacher left. This was not on their website or in any literature we had. He had already begun the application! This was such a disappointment.

Michigan has the same issue this year: no permanent guitar faculty.
