My d. is interested in meeting with a voice teacher at McGill and having a trial lesson. She plans to apply for the prescreening this fall. She contacted the Admissions Dept and was sent a link to a page that lists all the voice teachers and was instructed to contact the desired teacher individually. Does anyone have any information or feedback on any of the teachers so she could pick one? Is it best to request from more than one and see who responds? Should she contact the chair of the department? She is a soprano and has an interest in pursuing opera.
My D contacted the chair of the dept when she didn’t know a teacher. She would simply state when she would be on campus, her particulars (voice type, goals), and ask for assistance in finding a teacher for a sample lesson. I think she may have attached her resume too saying it was attached in case the chair needed to know about her. She ended up either singing with the chair or getting a referral to a teacher. I know another student who did this and did not have a teacher when he entered the school. However the chair helped him find a teacher he was very happy with in the end.
Good luck.
Thank you; that makes sense. I was going to suggest she contact the chair but the details you suggest clarifies things for us.
