Volunteer hours despite the possibility of worse grades

I'm taking three high work AP class, but I've also been offered a volunteer position at a local hospital for 4 hours on Monday nights. I'm really interested in IVY league schools. Should I take the Volunteer position despite the possibility of hurting my grades.

If you can’t handle having another activity, then it might not be with it. Volunteering doesn’t matter too much in college admissions.

Is it possible to do it on Saturday?

Do not risk lower grades for simple volunteering. Ivies want to see much more potential than volunteering. Leadership positions/ internships/ research are all much better.

Most definitely not!

High grades may not be sufficient, but they are absolutely necessary. Volunteer hours are not required, and they have no ability whatsoever to redeem mediocre grades.

This is absolutely insane! Your meagre EC means nothing if it means your GPA suffers. Top schools are inundated with apps from kids with stellar academic chops and great ECs. If you were my kid, I’d tell you to cut those vol hours immediately.

Hours = no benefit
GPA & rigorous transcript = most important aspects of your college application.
