Vote for Cairo Santos

As many of you know it has been a tough season for the Green Wave football team, both in terms of personal tragedies and their record. One of the brightest spots has been their kicker, Cairo Santos, a junior originally from Brazil but prepped at a Florida high school. He is a perfect 20-20 going into tomorrow's final game, and 12-12 from 40+ yards, with one from 54 and another from 57. He is one of three finalists for the national kicker award, the Lou Groza.

One of the votes is fan based, and right now he has a nice lead in that poll. Let's make sure he gets all our votes. Go to 2012 Finalists | PB Sports Commission - Lou Groza and towards the bottom you will see the voting area. The web design is poor, especially using white type on a light yellow background for the voting button, but I am sure you will find it.

He is easily having the best season of the three finalists, so not only do we get to give Tulane athletics a boost, he is the deserving party.

Thanks for posting this! I have voted and told dh and s’16 to do so, too!

I’m not a sports fan or computer literate but I just voted. It literally took 2 seconds. ( Thankfully you put the note about where to find it. He is still in the lead with 45%.

Santos was 1-1 today (and 2 extra points) so he ends the season a perfect 21-21. The one today was somewhere between 30-40 yards so nothing changed in the long field goal stats. The other finalists also had perfect days (3-3 for Sturgis and 2-2 for Hopkins) so essentially status quo.

This means Cairo is only the second Div I kicker in history, and the first since 1996, to be perfect when attempting 20 or more field goals. He is currently enjoying a significant lead in the poll, thanks to all who voted. I noticed a quick jump in Cairo’s vote count with no significant movement in the other two after posting this thread, and that’s great.
