W&M #21 in terms of highly rated professors!

According to "ratemyprofessor.com", the on-line leader for student assessments of teachers, W&M is one of the best (#21) in the country in terms of having professors that students value and admire. When I was a W&M student, I relished the multiple times my professor grabbed a group of us students and discussed a range of topics (academic, political, etc.) over a pizza at Pauls, or a beer at the Leafe! I was told, at the time, that the W&M administration encouraged this type of close interaction. Supposedly, even Thomas Jefferson, back in the day, would often discuss his studies with his profs (like Professor William Hall) at the Raleigh Tavern and similar venues. However, without the internet, I'm not sure how TJ and his peers were able to rate their instructors--perhaps it was just word of mouth or in letters.

Also, some of the students (who submitted ratings) provided comments. Here’s one of them.

“Great place full of involved people, be they in athletics, Greek organizations, clubs, student government, what have you. WE DO NOT JUST STAY IN THE LIBRARY! Come here if you want to have a GREAT college experience with normal, grounded people who are, for the most part, in touch with their inner nerd. AWESOME professors and on-campus resources.”

W&M also always rates extremely highly in “commitment to undergraduate teaching”… clearly one of the most valuable areas for a college to rank highly.

Yes, we are ranked 6th for commitment to undergraduate teaching by U.S. News and 8th in the category of “Professors Get High Marks” by Princeton Review.
