Hi! I’m a high school senior trying to frantically make a college decision, and William and Mary is one of my top schools! I’m a little bit worried though- I heard the academics are very intense and rigorous. I would like to be premed, so I want to excel as much as I can (and not get weeded out of premed if I can help it). How are the premed classes at William and Mary? Are there a lot of weeding out classes? How hard is it to maintain a high GPA? On a separate note- is it more of a collaborative or cut-throat school? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
William & Mary is known as very collaborative although the academics are rigorous. They don’t weed in the way other schools do or have committee recommendation letters. It is known for very good teaching, including in the sciences, and access to professors.
You should know pre-med (and medical school) will be challenging regardless of where you go to school. These are not easy subjects.
You can find the home page of the primary advisor below, and she even provides e-mail for questions. I’ve also provided the link for other resources:

William & Mary, like most other schools, has actually experienced grade inflation. You can see some comparative information on this site, which shows average GPA is over 3.3:
