W&M Ranked #4 Public College

Forbes ranked W&M the #4 public college in the United States, behind the Military, Air Force, and Naval Academies.

And more importantly, ahead of UVA. :P

America's Best Public Colleges - Forbes.com

Good School but just about everyone here thinks the F rankings is totally Bogus. Read the other threads…

Its less bogus than last year… Where The New School of Florida was ranked higher than WM

Just about all rankings are bogus. But for those who want to know anyway…

Anyone know when the US news rankings come out?

FWIW, that ranking has Cornell in the 200s. Come on.

Although W&M is my number one choice I’d have to say this list sucks

Id rather go with this

[Best Colleges - Education - US News and World Report](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/college/national-top-public)

“Best” is never going to be scientifically accurate, so take these lists with a big grain of salt.

But, still, looking at the underlying methodology can reveal things about a college that may be useful for an individual to know Here’s theirs:

[Methodology - Forbes.com](Methodology)

Debate the flaws in the methodology - simply asserting “That’s bogus, everyone knows Podunk U. is the best” isn’t a methodology, but an opinion, and usually just a parroted one at that - I mean, how could anyone “know” Harvard, for example, is the best college? Based on what? Even if you personally attended there - what would you have to compare it to?

I’d have to say the use of “Who’s Who?” and “RateMyProfessor” as inputs are obvious targets for criticism, while student and faculty awards, student indebtedness, likelihood of graduation in four years, and post-graduate employment statistics are all probably useful metrics, although the various weights assigned are debatable.

Whatever, it’s nice to get some recognition since W&M doesn’t fare so well in the most respected and recognized college quality ranking of all - the BCS standings … :)

wait till we put a scare into UVA on the football field in a month.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t fear this…

Well, a W&M grad is the defending Super Bowl champion coach…

haha, look on the bright side… if W&M wins, then there will probably be enough pressure to retool your football program, that has been lacking recently (my parents went to UVA + UMD so I follow those programs somewhat).

I remember W&M beating UVirginia back in 1986. They had an offense that could score points but the defense gave up a bunch too. Kind of the Laycock blueprint for success as well as excitement. Good luck.

So it did happen. Hopefully Groh will be gone by the end of the season.

W&M winning with defense?! Thats something new. Good luck for the rest of the year.

so it did, so it did…
