W on the Transcipt? And More

<p>I'm a first-semester Junior transfer to U-M intending to be a Comm. Studies major. Family emergency struck and I missed school for a week, and after returning, I did okay academically - meaning I score A's but this C in my COMM102 class (either the amount of readings is not manageable for me, a non-native, or I'm just not into them).</p>

<p>Anyway, since this is the last week for a withdrawal, should I take my C or withdraw it asap?
And since I've been thinking about switching my major, which would you pick: Sociology or Linguistics (I'm taking one class for each and like them pretty well)?</p>

<p>How certain are you that this will still be a C at the end of the sem? If you are very certain, then personally I would take the W. If you think you can raise it to at least a B, then I’d take the B.</p>

<p>I had a similar prob my final semester at community college. After getting very ill (and a real ***** of a teacher, please excuse my language), I had one class that would drop my GPA substantially from a 4.0 and was told by many advisors and professors that a ‘W’ can be explained on an application better than a lowered GPA.</p>
