I was just wondering if anyone here could help me out with this... I was waitlisted, and I know that housing is a concern at a lot of the schools. Penn, for example, admitted slightly less students this year because of housing issues due to a slightly higher matriculation rate than expected last year. I know that if the application to Princeton asked whether I wanted university housing, I answered yes. Should I let them know that if I need to, I could commute to the school, which is about a 25-minute drive from my house. Also, I stated that I would like to pursue a B.S.E., but now I think I would rather do economics or finance if I am accepted. Does anyone know if they only accept a certain number of B.S.E. students and if this will affect my chances in any way at all...Any help would be GREATLY appreciated...Also, do you know if all waitlistees
receive notification or if only the accepted ones do...thanks again

anyone on the waitlist is notified when it is closed, accepted or not. last year it was closed may 30.

i was waitlisted as well and everyone keeps telling me to call the admissions office or send in extra stuff...but in the letter that they send it specifically says not to do that stuff.

help?

*by the way--obviously i REALLY want to go to princeton--if i get off the waitlist, im going there.

The fact that you are on the wait list at a school like Princeton means, and they do say this in their letter, you are completely qualified to attend. They just had too many qualified applicants to accept all of them, and you weren't one of the lucky ones. Additional references etc. aren't necessary because they already think you're good enough so that stuff isn't going to sway them in your favor. I think that one reason schools don't rank their waitlists is because they have carefully planned the class composition to be the way they want it. Therefore, if a student who's really into a capella singing decides not to come, then they'll look for an a capella kid from the wait list. If a student government president doesn't accept, they'll look for someone from the waiting list with that type of leadership ability.

My son is also on the waiting list and wants to attend if he gets off. If some really exciting award or honor comes his way, he may let them know, but otherwise I doubt it would help any.

We know some one who got off the Princeton wait list in late August two years ago. I doubt the list is ever closed completely. Illness, death, etc. happens after May 30.

Hi
Im an indian student from Muscat, Oman.
I've been waitlisted too.
Although the letter I received says that there is no need to send any additional information, I just got the highest grade in the Gulf Chemistry Olympiad< conducted in the middle east>.

Should I send a copy of the certificate alongside my waitlist letter, or do you think sending it will make me look a little desperate?

well, last year it was closed. i got a letter in the mail dated may 30 saying due to and unexpectedly large enrollment, they were unable to offer admission to anyone on the waitlist and they closed it. you said that you know someone who got off the waitlist in august two years ago. i said last year it was closed in may 30, as in one year ago.
