My d was just called by Lafayette Admissions "to discuss her status on the Wait List" but she's already set on going to the school she chose: Clemson. She has struck up a relationship with her room mate, we've attended orientation, purchased and set up her computer. A little about her:

Quiet, shy, studious, home schooled
Loves literature and english/writing
Wants to major in Education
Lafayette is only 1.5 hours away

Any options for financial aid, course selection, and a decent dorm assignment at this late date? Also, any advice or factors she should consider?

So apparently she's not "set on going to the school she chose"?

Caledonian,

Wow -- your daughter just got a call now? That's crazy!

The people in Admissions would kill me for saying this, but I'd stick with Clemson. Your daughter already has a certain mindset, and is in the thick of mentally preparing herself for that school.

Plus, Lafayette doesn't offer a formal program of study in Education. If your daughter is thinking of becoming a teacher, there are better routes.

I'd only switch if the distance was (and still is) a cause for concern for either yourself or your daughter.

I have no idea how you would go about getting financial aid this late in the game. I'm sure they'd still work to meet your need 100%, but who's to say what grant $$$ is left?

If your daughter chooses Lafayette, rest assured I'll be here to help with course selection.

As for housing -- there's obviously an open space somewhere in a double. Your daughter probably won't have any choice in the matter, but that's a small price to pay if Lafayette really is a better choice for her.

This whole situation is still baffling to me. Are you sure the phone call wasn't some sort of scam?

Very Happy: As Justin stated my daughter has her mind geared towards Clemson and is prepared mentally. Her mother is concerned with the distance and I would like her to consider all options, even if it is late. Without being "helicopter parents" we want her to consider this opportunity.

Justin: She has not returned the call (received it Friday afternoon). A month ago she received a letter stating that the class had been filled from Wait List candidates but she could remain on some small list in the event a student did not return. She requested to remain on this list. The call was left by Ann Marie in Admissions at 610-330-5079. I find it odd as well but since it was a call and not a letter I think it is an offer of admission.

Thank you both for your reply.

Caledonian,

Oh, it's definitely an offer of admission. Congrats to your daughter!

While this certainly complicates the process, I'm glad you're approaching the situation with an open mind. If I can be of any assistance, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.

Caledonian,

Did your daughter return the call from Lafayette? Has she made a final decision?

An update would be much appreciated!

Just to let yoiu know, my S got the call from the wait list about ten days ago. This was his first choice, so we jumped all over it. We just thought 'If this was April, what would we do?' So now we're scrambling to get everything done, everone we've talked to has been extremely helpful. It looks as if he'll get the classes he wants, but is going to be probably at the end of the housing list.

skwidd4,

Verrrrrrrrry interesting -- congratulations to your son!

Hey, I see in your first post you say you're an RPI alum. Great school! My older brother went there for the seven year combined B.S./M.D. program with Albany Medical College.

If I can be of any help, feel free to drop me a line.
