Waiting for Decisions - Penn State Class of 2024

I would call their admissions office and inquire about that. I did that for my son just for peace of mind that all of his required information actually made it on time. Most colleges seem to allow some time for certain scores etc. to arrive.

@merrymugs , I saw another post where the person’s SAT scores did not arrive by the Priority deadline and it did bump their app to RD but I agree that a call to Admissions can’t hurt. The waiting is tough for sure. Good luck!

@merrymugs I think you are being unfair if “your patience is wearing thin”.

If you applied before the priority deadline, you are promised an answer by January 31st. Not “before this month ends” … but by the end of the month. Not only has Penn State NOT missed their deadline, you aren’t even sure if your application was complete by the priority deadline. We have seen where they are turning things around more quickly than they have in the past, but you can’t count on it.

I would second the recommendation to call Admissions and find out where you stand. “Did your application make priority deadline and should you expect an answer by Jan. 31st?” … is the first question I would ask. If you get a yes, then you know. If you get a no, then ask, when should you expect a response?

What are your stats? What major? How many Honors/AP? W/UW GPA? The experts on this board are usually pretty good at directional advice…

good luck

@merrymugs although I agree re contacting admissions, but first check when your scores were sent - one of my son’s had an issue with his scores at a college he sent them too- but when we sent them the Sat confirmation (you should have an email confirmation from SAT or ACT) stating the day it was sent they corrected his record. Oddly he sent his scores a week earlier then his twin and the others was recorded correctly.
It’s just best to have all your information (dates etc) in front of you before you call.

Call admissions, however, if you know that ALL of your application materials, including test scores, didn’t make it by the deadline, then, generally, you would be in the next application group. The deadlines exist for a reason. The only difference to this is if you applied with test scores on time, but then had scores update after the deadline. In that case, they will usually still consider your application complete when they had your first test scores.

In order to be in priority, ALL of your materials had to be in and your application complete by Nov 30. Call admissions to verify when your materials were received and what applicant pool you are in.

Does anyone know if decisions are still being posted once per day, after midnight? If so I guess there’s no need to check the portal multiple times per day…

I got in!!!

I contacted admissions and they said that my application is in the priority filing applicant group and I don’t have anything to worry about. Someone else I know also had their SAT scores received by PSU after the deadline and they got a decision earlier this week, so I guess SAT scores coming in after the deadline isn’t an issue.

@unibound313 if you’re going I highly recommend paying the deposit for housing. As an International student parent, I made sure we had the deposit in Jan to avoid crappy housing. Most international students wait and get the older dorms.

Has anyone who applied to the college of education gotten a decision?

Haven’t heard anything yet- do you think we would hear on the portal today?? is there a certain time that it is posted?

Has anybody heard what the date will be for financial aid decisions? Been waiting for our numbers since October.

@HokieCrazy , I believe the website says, “As soon as February” and on the Financial Aid page I’ve seen “mid-February” written. I keep checking anyway though.

Edited to add: I’ve also seen, “We will begin to notify students by the end of February 2020 (and on an ongoing basis thereafter)” listed, and that’s what it says in lionpath right now.

Yeah, the many different statements I’ve read led me to the question. I was hoping somebody had something more concrete. Been itching to find out financial aid information and Schreyer decisions, but will keep refreshing all the web pages. LOL

@jmraf , are you referencing Financial Aid decisions? Like HokieCrazy, I’m wondering if anyone knows anything we don’t.

no just regular admission decision/acceptance

if you want, try to apply to some test optional colleges. There are a few in the northeast.

Has anyone gotten a decision for Theatre? (non-audition program, BA in Theatre). My daughter completed her application, including the supplemental for that program, before Nov. 30. The portal still shows no decision.

Penn State is #1 choice; she probably won’t make a final decision until financial aid info comes out, because she has a great offer from Kent State, but of course we were anxiously waiting for the Jan 31 notification date and were disappointed to get nothing.

@lmkiker was all of her data (test scores, etc.) submitted by the deadline?

I’m surprised they would miss it - they’ve really tried to avoid the issues from last year.

I would contact Admissions on Monday and confirm that everything is complete and find out when she should hear a response.

Yes, everything was in before Nov 30, including her new supplemental submission on Acceptd for the BA. I confirmed on the portal in Nov and everything required was checked off as received. I told her to call tomorrow… thinking maybe the program is just a little late with all decisions.
