Waiting

If you really want to participate in an active forum about the service academies, my advice is to sign up for this one…

[United States of America Service Academy Forums - Powered by vBulletin](http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/)

CC was largely abandoned a couple of years ago due to lack of moderator support and few ‘know it alls’ who just wanted to argue with everyone.

glido, Outstanding news on the nom. and I could not agree with you more. I’ll be in touch with a PM.

Time2, I just checked out the info you sent, very nice!!!

Thanks 3units - it helps to hear of the progress of others because it provides information on the timing of the process. Thanks for your help.

glido,

Yes, yes, yes… “It helps to hear of the progress of others because it provides information on the timing of the process.” That is what fourm it is all about.

Time2 thank you for your feedback!!

glido and 3unitsIlove: I disagree:

 1. about how helpful the blog entries are
 2. how useful they are to anyone but the two of you
 3. “That is what fourm it is all about”

Private PMs between the two of you would IMHO be more appropriate than the ongoing saga that this thread has devolved onto…

aglages-give it a break. If what they write bugs you, don’t check in on this thread.

3units-never got back to you but one of our sponsor sons is a D1 athlete at the academy. We love watching him play. Another plays on the rugby team. One of our plebes spent Tgiving break w us. He worked on two big papers that were assigned to do over break (lol!).

Aglages: You are welcome to continue visiting this thread, but only if it makes you happy. How is your application progressing? I trust it is full steam ahead!

Aglages, omnipotent forum god, very nice. Enjoy that! IMHO & Disagrements, we all have them…don’t we? What we tend to leave out is respect for others…would you agree?

I love bio’s and the quotes that great people make…
“A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.” WC
“The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.” WC

Grandscheme, thank you for getting back. More importantly thank you for being a sponsor parent. I actually had the chance to meet the sponsor parents of a current 06 of 24 years removed from the Academy. Life long parental connections. At the change of command the 06 recognize both his parents and sponsor parents. I can only hope my DS has that same opportunity. The more we get down this road the more we learn of sponsor parents. You don’t get enough credit for what you do. If our son gets in I’ll be sure to be in touch. How did your Plebe make out with the papers??

I have no idea where I left off in the postings but to date he has the Senators nom but the two sneators send their list in as a competative list with no nom. He is going to have his Congressional interview I guess sometime next week. One would hope it happes soon, Jan 1st conmes quick. He wanted to retake his CFA, he completed it again and did better, maxed out in a few areas.

Glido, How is it going on your end any word with the nom’s? We just went to a BGO Alumni dinner that my DS was invited to. If you get the offer in your region go, there was a lot of insight from several grad years. Do you know of or about the sponsor parents? I can that if my DS gets in I hope he takes the opportunity and seek out a sponsor parent.

Cheers to all!!!

Great! Quotes may actually provide more useful information in this blog. Let me help:
“People’s stupidity really ****es me off. Stupidity is when you can’t help it - ignorance is when you choose not to understand something.”
Sarah McLachlan

I said great people.

A hint… The person I quoted had one of the greates impacts on their country and this world.

“ignorance” is a lack of awareness or knowledge.

“stupidity” is a lack of judgement or good sense.

“uneducated” is not knowing the difference.

Hope all is going well for your DS’s! I hope they are appointed to USNA; sounds like all is going well for them. I hope I am half as good of a candidate next year as it sounds like they are.

CE527M, Stay on track if your following close you will do as well as our children. Remember NASS opens in January make sure you apply.

glido, Hope all is well for your DS. Things should heat up a little more with more kids finding out. Did your DS apply for NROTC as well?

Merry Christmas and Happy New year to all…

Thank you glido! This information is so much more helpful than:

aglages: They are all useful for one who is open to growth.

3Units: Got another meeting with the BGO scheduled. It is a waiting game for sure. No NROTC apps for DS. He prefers OCS.

Sorry glido, I was away from this for a few days…

Other than OCS there is also involvement with the unit if he goes to a school with ROTC. It does not have to be Navy, it can be any branch. If he is accepted into the unit he can apply again to the Academy. The CO of the unit can then rec. him the next year for both the Academy & NROTC. They really love it when kids don’t give up and again it doen not matter what unit they were involved in, it just shows that they want it. Our DS is already planning on a re-app if not selected and join up with a unit at one of the colleges has has been accepted to.

The upside to all of this is April is a long way off so they are both very much in the game and the numbers at this point are much smaller than when they all started. I found an Academy power point where it showed the numbers of apps from the start to the end. The “stats” show that if a candidate is 3Q’ed + a nom they are in a pool of about 2,000 kids. This is not hard data so take it with a grain of salt, there may be a few more or less to the 2k. I spoke to someone I know who has a son at the academy (Sr.) and they said that the numbers I noted are very close. The went on to say that with it being the 3rd. week of December it is still early but more kids will learn in the next month.

I wish all of these kids the very best no matter who gets in.

Love the growth statement!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Thanks 3Units. DS just passed his physical, do he is a 3Q. He has been accepted at 3 schools so far, all with access to ROTC, if he is interested. for now . . . more waiting.

Same exact boat… My son also heard back from his three top choices and got into their honors program as well. With electrical engineering, NROTC and Honors I don’t know how that will all work together.

He also got into his “C plan if not selected” school. Again honors with a 50% scholarship. There are 4 other scholarships offered from the honors program, he is waiting for that. In the end with just the 50% it is already heeper than our in state university.

In regard to the Academy, I was talking to two parents I know, one has a firstie the other has a plebe. They said that Jan, Feb, & March will be a big roll out of appointments.

I have no idea how many kids are left but Jan 1 was the time that all the MOC’s had to have their nom’s in. I guess this is what the admissions board has been waiting for.

I wish your son all the very best. Lets hope they both get in and meet each other on July 1st during "I-Day.

Happy New Year and please post if you hear anything!!!

Happy New Year to you and yours! Will post when we get any new information.

I somewhat disagree. Applying to the Naval Academy is not like an elementary school science project where it is readily obvious that the parent did the project and not the student.

I have twin sons who earned an appointment to the Naval Academy (and have since graduated) and I unapologetically admit that I did much of the paperwork and monitored the deadlines for them. They were busy with school, sports and applying to other colleges -and- since I knew a lot about the process (USNA alum), it was far more expeditious, effective and efficient for me to do much of the work.

One of the biggest mistakes parents make when their son/daughter apply to the Naval Academy is to view the application process as some kind of learning experience. If there is anything you have to offer that can assist your child to earn an appointment, you should do it - even if it’s something as simple as proofreading their personal statement or reviewing their list of activities and reminding them of one they may have forgotten.

Granted, from a military perspective, many parents are not qualified to be of much assistance or offer much insight. In that case, it is all up to the candidate. But, in many cases, the parent has experiences that certainly would help their son/daughter.

You have to get your foot in the door. Get the appointment! After that, the candidate is all on their own. You won’t be able to help them get through the next four years. That’s the part they need to understand.

Every year there are many triple-qualified candidates (many with nominations) who will not earn an appointment. It is highly selective and small things can sometimes make a big difference.

Do not let the ship hit the iceberg just to see if it will float or sink. If you can steer the candidate around the “icebergs” - you should!

You’re dealing with a bureaucracy here. They are not making fine discernments about who they think is doing “all the work”.

Make your application as impressive as possible. That’s the key to success in getting a nomination and appointment; however you achieve that is irrelevant.
