So May 1st has come and gone, and colleges are starting to open up their waitlists. I have eagerly joined the list for Bryn Mawr, and to keep myself from going crazy, I thought I’d make a thread about it. So… who else is waiting with me? Where did you end up sending a deposit? Does anyone know how big the list is this year?

Anyone hear anything yet? Ha I know its still really early, I’m just anxious. I love Bryn Mawr and I reaally want to get off this list. I found stats from the past few years on their site (http://www.brynmawr.edu/institutionalresearch/documents/Admissions0809.pdf)

2005/06: 158 students accepted spots on the list, 15 enrolled
2006/07: 209 accepted spots, 26 enrolled
2007/08: 200 accepted spots, 19 enrolled
2008/09: 174 accepted spots, 7 enrolled

No idea how many were offered spots from the WL in total though (like, if someone was offered admission but didnt enroll). If anyone has any past success stories, feel free to post them!

well, if it makes you feel any better, my appeal for a gap year just got approved so they might need someone off the waitlist to fill my spot for the 2013 class!

haha thanks englishivy, that does make me feel a bit better. What are you doing for your gap year?

A friend of mine got off the list today. I’m really happy for her…but now even more nervous haha. If I don’t get in, I’ll be going to Ithaca, which I’m happy with… but still crossing my fingers to be a Mawrter!

i got accepted today! i had no clue i was getting in! the lady left me two messages on my cell so i called her back, not thinking about it. and she asked, “are you still at all interested in Bryn Mawr?” and i was like, “yes, very much!” and she was like, “oh good! there is a spot open for you in the class of 2013!” all i could say is wooooowwwww… haha

good luck!!

aaah congratulations mustangsally09! Thats awesome!

Just curious, did you send them any additional things to add to your application, or did you just wait and get that call?

Thanks so much!!
umm right when I found out that i got wait listed I sent in a detailed letter explaining why Bryn Mawr is the best college for me and a really good teacher rec that i hadn’t used for Bryn Mawr yet. Other than that, nope. And I have really bad senioritis so my grades haven’t been so great
hope that helps and good luck!

haha thanks. Ya, I wanted to send them my grades but theyve def been slipping too… senioritis + me have been getting pretty tight
I DID send them two more recs and a letter about why I love BM. I kind of just mailed everything on saturday, so I’m hoping they just haven’t gotten to my file yet. (also hoping there is enough money left to give me aid, cause I’m gonna need that! eek…)

congrats again tho!

Waitlists are all about enrollment management. Maybe fewer prospective Classics majors decided to enroll, so Bryn Mawr might take one or two classics majors off the waitlist. Or they might need swimmers. Or someone from Kansas. (Ever read “Our student body represents all 50 states and x foreign countries” on a college website?)

Getting off the waitlist really is a crapshot. If it does not work out, it will not be due to your last-semester grades or because you did not submit that extra essay. You are awesome and Bryn Mawr knows that, or they would have not offered you a spot on the waitlist to begin with. Now it’s just a question of whether or not you would fill one of the few niches that the regular admits left open. It’s one of those few things that you cannot do anything about, except to cross your fingers and wait for that magic phone call. Good luck to all of you who are still waiting!

That’s a good amount of things to send in and a little more than I did, so who knows!
What are planning on majoring in? Maybe that will affect the decision like B@r!um said…

I got my call today!!!

Dude i got my letter today. kinda expected coz i think the only reason they waitlisted me was because of my aid and because of my twin applying. …
But it’s still worthwhile though :P:p

I’m an international student from Vn living in US needing full aid.
I know this year it is Extremely hard for international students as BRyn Mawr just lost lots of money due to the depression. I was surprised that i still goti n…

im waitlisted =) god i hope i get in, this wait is driving me crazy… CONGRATS to all of you guyz who got in! xD

Yes, Congrats nastynate and foargo91. Thats awesome!
My friend got her letter yesterday… she may have to decline due to financial reasons, but she did get a pretty good aid package. So I’m not giving up hope!

Mustangsally09, I’m going to be an English major… I have a feeling they’re not desperate for people in that department, but hey, who knows? I said I would bring diversity to the campus because I’m Jewish. LOL.
Love their English Department tho, I was flipping through the course catalog and courses have such interesting tittles…“Terror, Pleasure and the Gothic Imagination”, “Love and Money”… ha I gushed about it in my letter.

foargo91, are you and your twin both attending?

b@r!um, thanks for those words of wisdom… just gonna keep crossing my fingers!

haha nice!

is anyone else’s virtualbrynmawr account not working?! I’m trying to view my financial aid and it won’t let me log in! I’m so frustrated!!

My VBM account works just fine, and the computing website also does not mention a service interruption. Maybe your account is locked? That happens when you log in too frequently, or forget to log off when you leave. If you have set up security questions, you can unlock your account online: https://password.brynmawr.edu/accounts/UnLock Otherwise I suggest you call the Help Desk.

thanks. It freaked out for like an hour and wouldn’t let me in, but now its working fine? whatever…lol

Glad it works again!

I don’t know if the college has told you about security questions and answer, but it is a good idea to set them up very early on: https://password.brynmawr.edu/ Many students (myself included :)) have a talent for getting their accounts locked. If we do not have security questions set up, we have to wait until the Help Desk is staffed to get the account unlocked. Not having access to e-mail or the storage server is not fun when you have to finish a paper that’s due the next morning…

I just thought I would bring this up because we were talking about accounts.

hey guys…
i have few questions that really bother me…
i just got off the waitlist today and i’m just so thrilled!i did apply for financial aid (full aid) but in the virtual bryn mawr stuff, it’s indicated that i have no financial aid awards!!it really freaked me out as it is impossible for me to go to bryn mawr without any aid…

i asked the committee a few days about financial aid stuffs for international student who got waitlisted…and they said that they won’t admit students if they can’t afford to give them financial aid…

what should i do now??i REALLY LOVE bryn mawr and would love to be enrolled there…
