Waitlist email...who should I contact?

I was waitlisted and Northwestern is my first choice now, so obviously I'm staying on the waitlist and want to improve my chances best I can.

I was going to send my admissions person (whoever that is) an email about my application. Would it be better to email or call?

I am also including a letter I wrote to my parents on the flight back from my spring break trip (volunteering in an orphanage in Jamaica) and an extra recommendation. Is this enough/too much? Should I include a letter of interest as well, or will they assume it's my top choice since I'm accepting a spot on the waitlist?

I would encourage you to write a hard copy letter to the Admissions Director, with a copy to the officer who sent you the waitlist letter. Keep it to one page, and be clear and concise as to why you consider NU your FIRST choice. Be sure to have your school send an updated transcript, too.
If you have not had a chance to visit the school, now would be a good time. Make it a point to meet with an admissions counselor-preferably the one who sent you the waitlist letter. That is what my daughter did-and it worked!Good Luck!
