My D was waitlisted at American. It is her top choice, which she indicated in her waitlist response email. In addition she sent a letter and a new teacher recommendation. We were somewhat encouraged by the nice email she got back from admissions and shortly after we were asked for additional financial information from the FA office.
Financial aid answered back that the information her Dad sent basically didn’t change her FAFSA, and directed her to some loan information.
We can’t figure out whether that means she didn’t qualify for any scholarships or not. The whole thing is a bit crazy because she hasn’t actually received an offer of admission yet. I am thinking the FA guy just isn’t aware of her status. We don’t know whether to just let it go for now, or whether or not we should email the FA guy and ask him whether this means she would not get any scholarship money if she is offered admissions? She really wants AU, but we can’t do it without some aid.

AU and schools like it don't seem to be giving a lot of aid to their students. I really wouldn't count on it.

I would call admissions and ask them directly. It couldn't hurt and either way you'll get your answer. Best of luck - hope it works out :)
