Anyone on the JMU waitlist and if so has anybody heard anything yet? My daughter doesn’t expect to hear until after May 1, but I’m seeing other schools starting to go to their waitlist so I’m curious. No doubt COVID 19 is going to play a major role in this admissions cycle.
We’re hoping for a spot in the business college! VT has started pulling, but only OOS engineering from what we can gather. Some good news would be awesome right now with such an abrupt end to senior year. Agreed, COVID 19 will definitely impact things.
Good luck and if you hear anything, post it as will I!
We are anxiously awaiting JMU to start pulling! It will be interesting to see how the current situation affects kids decisions/financial issues. I know our house has considered staying closer to home- just incase.
Does anyone know how they notify students? I have read they actually call students. Is this true of recent years?
Wishing everyone the best of luck! Please post any information you may have about this process. Stay well!
My son got in off the waitlist today.
Congratulations to your son!!! Did they notify him through the portal or call? Nothing for my daughter yet.
Thanks! We both received an email.
Did the email reveal any of the details within the process? ie: number of students on the waitlist active or waitlist acceptance deadlines?
Also kmmi45, on JMU’s website is says that waitlist offers will not be extended until after may 1st, did they waive this amid the covid-19 pandemic? Are their enrollment numbers down?
I think all colleges say they will pull from the waitlist after May 1st just so kids don’t get their hopes up and sit around anxiously waiting to hear earlier than they should. But I don’t think it’s uncommon that they start to pull before May 1st especially if it’s mid April and they haven’t met certain numbers that they need for certain categories like out of state, a certain section of VA, a certain major, boys vs girls etc.
Not that this matters since this year is so different because of Covid19, but here are the numbers from the last 2 years if you haven’t seen them. (If you google Common Data Set and the school and the year you can find out this info for any college.) For JMU in 2018-19 the number of students admitted from the waitlist was 445 out of the 1950. In 2019-20, they admitted 960 out of 1724.
is there any idea if these numbers are expected to be higher or lower this current enrollment year due to Covid-19?
My son just got in! In-state, for business.
Congratulations! Can you post what your son’s stats are? Thanks!
@3.7 weighted GPA and 1290 SAT with lots of community service, NHS, and 3-sport athlete.
No details at all were given as to process or statistics. His acceptance deadline is May 5. I looked online and they still state a May 1 deadline for those previously accepted. I think all bets are off with Covid-19. I think this is just the beginning of waitlist acceptances. I’m trying to enjoy the moment with him rather than think about what will be going on in the fall.
Any updates on waitlist? It seems like they need to take from their waitlist early this year. Is this possibly from covid-19?
@Curtis-S We have a friend near Winchester VA whose daughter and another friend from her high school got off the waitlist yesterday. My daughter hasn’t heard anything yet. I think Covid will impact VA colleges’ waitlists in different ways. On the one hand some kids may have planned to go to a top choice out of state but either didn’t get to visit yet or their parents want them close to home. So that could increase enrollment for in state schools. On the flip side, some may back out of their acceptances because their parents aren’t getting paid or their parents don’t want to pay tuition if schools go online. Or parents may say with everything up in the air bc of Covid they want their kid to go to community college then transfer. This will be a year like no other for college admissions.
My daughter got off the waitlist today! We haven’t gotten an email yet but she just checked the JMU portal and it now says Admitted!!
Congratulations! Without the email are you still able to accept the waitlist admitted offer?
