Waitlist

Thanks! Ahh…oh well. Let’s just muddle things a bit further then. If X school has lets say, about 3 million in FA money, do they have to use ALL of the 3 million? Or do they keep some of it just in case? In addition, do schools still offer loans?

Just a few more days and things should start opening up for some lucky WListers! Remember what Tom Petty said," the waiting is the hardest part." Hang in there, and keep believing that the right door will open up soon!

@ExieMITAlum - thanks for taking the time to answer those questions for circlemidnight. Can never hurt to have all that information put out there again.

@circlemidnight - not sure about loans, but schools are under no obligation to use all FA. That was discussed a few times on other threads, sorry I cannot get you a link - do a search on FA.

:) I love Tom Petty… but right now my mind is on Eddie Money…
I wanna go back and do it all over, but I can’t go back I know… ;)

@ mamakiwi and Exie-thanks for the info! Sometimes, I lose info if its scattered here and there. My apologies.

Anyways, here is a new update from Choate:

Dear All,

Thank you for your patience as the days have moved along since March 10th. With the calendar turning to April we enter a week when we will begin to look closely at our enrollment in anticipation of April 11th. While there is no news at the moment, as the next several days unfold, we will begin to evaluate if and in which grades we have opportunities to consider applicants on the Wait List.

We appreciate the uncertainty of these days for families, and we will do whatever we can to inform you of news when we have it, as we know many of you have to make plans by the 11th. For candidates who can wait beyond the 11th, the Wait List will remain open as we monitor our enrollment next week and beyond. Periodic updates will be provided.

Sincerely,

Ray Diffley III
Director of Admission

Any comments about this?

Apparently most applicants wait until the last few days to commit to one school. I spoke to an AO at one place yesterday, and was told that not even half of the accepted students had yet decided. So if you are waiting to hear from a WL, breathe, wear yourself out on the treadmill, spend time with friends.

Parents, I encourage you to model the attitude you’d like your dc to have. Feel free to pm me for a virtual cup of tea. :)

Most schools are no longer making loans and a lot of companies are getting out of the business, but I think Sallie Mae still makes K-12 loans (3 year payment window) and there is one other service a boarding school recommended whose name escapes me right now but I put the link on another thread. If I dig it up again, I’ll post it.

So there’s hope, but it’s tough taking out loans if you know there are more years ahead that will add to the financial pile.

At a revisit day today we were encouraged to inform them of final decisions either way ASAP because they have students on waitlists who are anxiously awaiting.
Some have revisit days as late as Friday though…

Thanks all, for the information. I don’t know what I would’ve done without CC! I hope this isn’t too personal of a question for me to ask but for those that take out loans specifically to pay tuition at a BS, I wonder if they do so because they are a thousand short (or a small amount of money, it’s just an example) of what they can afford, or if it is a much larger sum? I know this is a bit too early for me to consider, but this may be useful to some parents/students, especially the ones with a large amount of FA, in the coming weeks.

BUMP! Hoping that there will be good news posted on this thread in the next week or so!

I know of someone got off the wait list at St Paul’s.
I do not know if they are full pay or FA.
They were called mid-week I believe.

Maybe they had a lot of spaces open up after SevenDad posted his review? ;)

Hey, look, I am a real member now! I was wondering when I’d get rid of the “junior” label.

@Linda: Your inbox is full! I’d love to help my D get in touch with her future schoolmate.

Sorry, I cleaned up it a little!

Aww. Now my hopes for getting off the SPS waitlist are killed…But congrats to whomever got off !

No they are not swissbrit! Deadline is not until Monday, so more spots may open up around then.
You never know!

Yes hopefully. Fingers crossed. Good luck to all other Waitlistees, especially neato’s daughter.

Swissbrit, did you revisit at LC? My son is there today…decisions in the next 24 hours.

I revisited and I liked it a lot. The person I was with was really nice, he introduced me to a lot of his friends and I had a good time; he was able to answer all my questions on school life and academics. I sat in on an English class which seemed very interesting. The food was really good. They have an ice- cream machine and a Gatorade fountain! Overall I think it is a great school, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the hefty price tag; especially since I can challenge myself academically where I am right now. I also don’t want to give up crew, which I would have to do. It’s going to be a tough decision, and I’m running out of time.

The no crew factor is a bummer. Although he hasn’t rowed, he has the build and the right demeanor…we’d like to see him try it and obviously you can’t at LC.
