Waitlist

So I was waitlsited at Oberlin this year and I wicked devastated.

I was wondering
a) how many people do they waitlist?
b) how common is it for waitlisted students to be accepted?
c) is financial need considered when revisiting the waitlist?

If anyone knows the answers, I'd really appreciate it. I've looked around the Oberlin website but haven't found anything yet.

I was also waitlisted and also VERY devestated. I would like to know the same thing, particularly the stats from 2006.

I looked back to last year's post, and I found the waitlist stats for 2005:

891 students were offered a place on the waiting list
640 accepted a spot on the waiting list
33 were admitted

:(

Oberlin's common data set is not easy to find, but it is at:
http://www.oberlin.edu/instres/temp/CDS/

In their CDS you will find that 846 people were offered a place on the waiting list last year, 600 people accepted a place on the waiting list, and that 33 were admitted from the waiting list. That was about 4.6% of the enrolling freshman class.

I think it is ridiculous that the waitlist is bigger than the expected enrolling calss.

I also just noticed I am missing a verb in my first sentance. Whoops (that's how frustrated I was).

I got an email from Oberlin saying I was accepted and invited to the campus visit and TODAY I got the mail saying I was waitlisted? Confusing. Will have to figure things out :(

I got waitlisted too... but i'm intel so I think there maybe some difference. We waitlisted people shouldn't hope for anything coz this year's poll is so huge!

I have a question... how does the waitlist work? I know Oberlin doesn't rank its waitlist, so how do you determine who gets accepted? Is it random? Or do you look at who already accepted places into the school and try to find the students from the waitlist to even out the percentages of the student body (ex. try to match the percentage of asians from last year)? Or is it something entirely different? Thanks.

i think you need to write or call them up to say that you are desperate to go

and get your high school consellor to call if possible

just let them know you will definitely go if you get accepted

im on the list too

good luck to everyone

good luck!

I'm pretty sure it isn't any sort of indication, but I'm just curious... does anybody on the waitlist have updated information in the financial aid section of Presto? The Financial Aid Status and the Eligibility sections have been updated on my account.

Has anybody heard from Oberlin yet? I actually called today, and the representative said that they'll start notifying this coming week or so. They're still receiving deposits at this point. I called weeks ago, and a different representative told me that they'll start notifying in the first week of May.

Good luck, everybody. This has been a rough couple of weeks... I just can't get over my disappointment even though I'm trying my best.

Sorry for posting again, but has anybody heard from Oberlin yet? Is Oberlin even going to use their waitlist?

If you don't get accepted into the waitlist initially, will they inform you about your standing or should one call to find out?

I would call Oberlin, but I've already called twice with waitlist questions. I don't want to seem like a pest... some huge house fly that keeps hovering around Oberlin's head.

Does anyone know what stage Oberlin is at with their waitlist? Are they still accepting more students or have they finished with their initial acceptances?

I emailed the admissions office last week with several questions, and a representative said, "We have contacted a few students, but we are unsure of whether we will be taking many more."

...I'm scared by the fact that I'm the only one talking about the Oberlin waitlist. Where is everyone? Is this a good sign?

If you don't get off the waitlist go to your #2 school and see if you like it. There's a good chance that if you have other good options you will. If not, you could always try transferring to oberlin after a semester or year.

Well, at least one person has been called in from the waitlist, this is news from the Facebook group.

Yup--she went to my high school! And after she was waitlisted, I wrote a letter to the admissions office on her behalf. I'm so glad it all worked out for her.

=). You should write one for artsavedmylife too.

Haha, it's too bad I don't know any Oberlin graduates. I emailed my regional rep on Friday, and they're still not finished filling available spots. I hope I don't have to wait till the end of June... I'm having emotional problems... hormones all ablaze.

Hey agreenbee, do you remember when you got off the waitlist?

may 16th, 2005.

good luck!!
