@scottj Thank you so much for the suggestion! I understand what you mean. I may also be more willing to visit Boston College again.
@ohmioo: Hi, I just wanted to let you know my d also was wait listed and sent her LOCI in right away and addressed it to the Admissions officer that sent her the original wait list decision. She applied to the CA&S and is really hoping to join the class of 2019. Her stats: 4.76 W UW 4.16 R 10th and has lots of EC act. also VP NHS. Thinking about visiting week of April 20th and we too will seek out our Adm team if possible, good luck to all who are waiting!
Since May 1st is a Friday, does anyone know at what time of the day the door closes and the next one opens? AND, will they be making calls to us ‘waitlisters’ on the weekend? Have they done so in the past?
every college is different and every year is different. I’ve been around a long time, and I’ve seen of Top 30 schools starting calls before May 1, if their yield was much lower than expected that spring. OTOH, if yield is higher than expected, they hit the WL the first week of May, but only for a few hands-full.
Each Regional Rep at the same school can work differently, depedning, in part, upon work flow and travel schedule, not to mention relationship with the HS. Some may call the applicant or the HS GC; others just mail the regular fat envelope to the applicant’s home.
GL. BC is worth the “wait”.
Do you recommend addressing the email to undergraduate admissions and cc the regional rep? Or vice versa?
@ohmloo: My d called admissions and they said to send it to the undergrad. edu email address and that it would be placed in your file. Also just visited BC It’s still my d’s number one choice, met with Mr. Mahoney head of admissions and had a wonderful chat about d’s current CHS relocated because of Tornado in June of 2011 and being on waitlist. Sent updates as well and just waiting for hopefully good news . Nervously waiting in Western Mass!
I recommend the regional rep who, after all, is gonna be the one to know your HS and file best.
Has anyone been taken off the waitlist? Does anyone know when the school will begin to contact waitlisted students this year and by what means?
@maof4: Not sure, d still waiting also, hopefully soon it’s her top choice. Good luck as well!
@maof4 Hi I’m also a waitlister, really nervous and excited at the same time, I really love BC. Praying I get in, haven’t heard that they are taking off the list yet. Let me know if you hear different…
@maof4: I was reading old 2018 threads about how and when they contact waitlist candidates, most come through snail mail a few were called, and a few noticed a change in their online Agroa portal. it was around May 13th or so. I know it’s really hard to concentrate on anything else but getting into BC…I fell in live with the campus when I visited in April it’s has everything you want from a college… keeping my fingers crossed in the next few weeks… :)>-
To help ease concerns, we will know nothing about our ability to take students from the waitlist until the week of May 4-8, with no guarantee any decisions will be made that week. Communication of a decision will come via e-mail, just as Regular Decision letters were.

@DevlinHall208 : Thank you for easing our concerns, will be looking forward to receiving a positive response via e-mail…hopefully
Not sure if anyone knows the answer to this, but does legacy still play into applicants on the wait list? I have quite a long legacy throughout my family, and BC has been my dream school for years! Any feedback would be great! Thanks.
@bchopeful19 : HI, I’m not sure but if you are competitive , (don’t know your stats gpa, scores, rank and ec)with the other applicants and not just relying on your legacy then you should have a chance just like anyone else that is on the waitlist. Good luck

but does legacy still play into applicants on the wait list?
[/QUOTE]
When you say “legacy”, are you referring to legacy members who have actively helped the school with alumni activities and financial well being? Or legacy who simply attended any maybe gave their $100/year to the school since graduating?
Schools like BC will not tell you their methodology for drawing from the waitlist. Most schools use it to help achieve the diversity balance they’re seeking for their incoming class, where legacy is not a factor. There is no indication that BC is any different.
@jpm50 @Massmom2015 For me, legacy is my mother, both aunts, both uncles, and my grandfather. And it actually goes further beyond that because my grandfather was best friends from childhood with the former dean who is also still very active at the school. I have not been relying solely on my legacy because I am a competitive student, but I do think it has helped me. Thanks for the feedback!
I think legacy can cut both ways when it comes to the waitlist. I don’t know about BC, but some schools waitlist well connected applicants rather than deny admission as a courtesy to the person recommending them. Such applicants will never be admitted.
So, it’s the Monday after May 1st… Anyone hear anything yet? DevlinHall208, thanks for last week’s dose of sanity.
Are we any closer to hearing this week?
@maof4: Well stated and very true.
