Just a quick followup. WashU has one of the highest number of NMF enrollments in the country. Obviously they must have taken a few kids who have good stats.

your scores are awesome, but i don't think it should shock anyone that they were waitlisted from washu. it's a highly competitive school that gets a lot of 2400's and similar scores. that doesn't make it a safety for them if only for the reason that the incoming freshman class simply isn't big enough to take everyone, even if the stats look good. good news is that you still have a chance, probably not a huge chance, but if you would still go there if you ultimately were accepted, stay on the waitlist. anybody know if they rank their waitlist, by the way? waitlisted, right here, too.

whatchadoing, it's NOT a safety, and if you're waiting for responses from other competitive schools, please be cautious before you call them that. no school with an admissions rate lower than 50% is a safety--for anyone.

WUStL was THE top of my list, and I don't know how I could have made it more obvious (interviewed, visited, went to info session). I'm not saying that the interest I DID demonstrate speaks for itself, I just wish they could really see how much I love it and really would have gone (maybe a Why WashU essay or something).

admissions is a tricky game. sometimes you are let down, even after showing lots of interest and getting good grades. not everyone can be satisfied.

if you really want to go to washu, but you can't this year, you can always apply as a transfer later on.

For the record, transfering is in no way easy, but compared to freshman admissions it's a cakewalk. I definitely second the above comment: if you really love the school that much, apply as a transfer next year.

watchadoing, do not get upset because you are waitlisted by Wash U. chances are you will be accepted by an IVY school or the like. Wash U probably sensed that you are unlikely to matriculate, to protect their yield.

some Wash U lovers are arragont too. Even Harvard and Standford can be somebody's safety school. Is Wash U that much better than Harvard or Stanford?

Once in a college information session, the representative from Harvard said that harvard is some students' safety school, everybody laughed, thought that was joke. But it is not a joke. I have seen quite a few students treated Harvard as a safety school. What is wrong to use Wash U as a safety school?

Who in the world has used Harvard or Stanford as a safety school? if they did use it as a safety school, they're clearly delusional. What did they consider their reach school?

Their reach is to have merit scholarships from elite schools, like Caltech, Duke, Wash U, Rice, and so on. Or they may want to go another school more. If what you want most is MIT or Stanford or Wash U, Harvard is a safety.

Wonder123 is right! Harvard was Robert Langdon's safety school. ;)

Harvard has a yield of 78%. That means, 22% did not accept the offer.

wonder123, i completely agree with you.

watchadoing, i'm in the same boat. i don't really wanna post my stats, but we're pretty much comparable in everything except sports (i haven't played any sports). i completely understand why you considered washu a safety. despite all the naysayers, i think your stats look great: you're well-rounded, involved, AND have really high test scores. i think you really should have been accepted at washu. i've known people who've done much less and have gotten in.

wait-list was unexpected for me too. not to sound cocky, but after getting an early acceptance letter to stanford, a likely letter to duke, and scholarship offers at other top 20 schools, i really did not expect to be waitlisted at washu.

disclaimer: this post is not meant to offend anyone. so please, don't take any offense. it will be a wasted emotion.

i got into washu and i have worse stats than the ppl that got waitlisted at my school

My friend just got into MIT and was waitlisted at Wash U!

^interesting.

btw, the day after getting waitlisted at washu, i got a likely letter for cornell as a Tanner Dean's Scholar. i see how there is a lot of evidence supporting the fact that washu waitlists its top applicants in order to protect its yield, but w/e.

my d got into Wash U. She has great stats 35 act 790 math/780 verbal great activities. Several friends with the same stats were waitlisted. She was stunned. A top pick for my d, she visited Wash U several times and let them know of her interest. The bad news is she did not receive a scholarship. Despite her strong desire to go there and the FaFSa form saying we can afford to send her there, we can't. She will have to decline unless some miracle scholarship shows up on our door step.

i just came back from a trip up north with my family and found out that i have been waitlisted. i have stats similar to yours, and no offense to others + i agree that washu is no one's safety school, but i am also kind of shocked...
