Well, the immediate diagnosis is prestige whore. Not very many people apply to all eight without a very good reason. While they share certain characteristics, they’re all pretty different.

Consider:

*Harvard has 1660 spots for the freshman class
*Harvard admitted 2046 students
*Harvard’s yield last year was 76%

Assuming the yield is the same as last year’s, Harvard could admit up to a hundred students off the waitlist. It will almost certainly not admit more than that and most likely fewer.

is there a reason to apply to the entire ivy league other than because you’re a prestige whore/want to say that you applied to the entire ivy league?

Accepted- Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Columbia
Waitlisted- Penn, Cornell, Brown

Was expecting (or at least realistically hoping for) it to be the other way around, wow. Excited though :)! Applied to most of the ivy league because it was either that or state school (financial aid). I’m so thankful.

i have seen statistics that show that more kids than ever by far applied to many (or all) ivies, so they will all have lower yield rates, so they will take more kids off the waitlists this year, so don’t despair yet!

i would do anything to be in the position that some of you are in…at least you got accepted to one of the ivies!! ive had one B in my life and i came up short!!!

People have to stop with ■■■…it is over used now, just like epic fail…besides, getting into Duke plus two of the best publics in the country is nothing to be ashamed about. And besides, its only undergrad.
