Waitlisted by the entire IVY LEAGUE

absolutely right goodschool

You have a point. However, once a student is waitlisted, it seems as if the student’s emotional bond to the school is gone. I read about one student being waitlisted at their first choice Swarthmore and then getting off the waitlist and declining. Their response was “why didn’t you accept me in the first place?”. This speaks to the emotions caused by acceptances and rejections. When a school accepts you, you begin to look into the school and sort of bond with it while the ones that waitlist and accept you begin to have negative feelings associated with them.

^ Also true.

Well, Goodschool, as I say, if there is but 1% chance in the back of your head that you would go to a school that waitlisted you if they pull you off the list, it is not my place to tell you to withdraw. However, this whole “ah, nevermind, if I decline the waitlist offer, somebody else will get my place later” is still ridiculous. Heck, there are people from across the world who need to know whether they will be arranging moving to United States or not, etc - everybody needs to plan! Moreover, as monroylobo mentioned, although receiving that lucky call June 21st is almost equal to a miracle sent from heaven, the emotional strain before that & the double rejection are just such entirely too nerve-wrecking. I would personally not want to be responsible for any of that to the students who want to go to the other school that waitlisted me - so there - to each his own.

Even if i put myself on the waitlist, and then get accepted but decline the acceptance, your chances (whoever else on the wait list) are not hurt. Sure maybe you have to wait another day or week to to know if your on or off, but for hahhvaaad im sure you wouldn’t mind in the long run.

^ That is making me wonder how much time are you given to decide if you would accept the offer if you are called off of the waitlist - I’m not holding our much hope but am curoius. Anybody know?

7-10 days…

Time enough to visit or revisit if need be. Thanks

guys can we move all discussions in the thread i have made official thread?in this way our discussion wont be scattered and it will be easier for everyone!!!
