Waitlisted question?

I applied to Lawrenceville but got waitlisted, but it is my top choice school. A lot of people said to be close to the admissions officer and send them new grades and accomplishments but this year I received an email (along withwaitlist instructions) saying not to do that and not to call asking for the status of the waitlist. Should I refrain from contacting thrm at all? Is there any chance to make it more likely to get off the waitlist without emailing them about my new accomplishments (do you think students that email them anyway even when they said not to will have a better chance)? Thanks!

@conchshell21 Tough question. They said not to BUT if you have new information supporting your application …not sure

Follow directions,

There isn’t much point in doing anything now. They won’t even start looking at the waitlist until after April 10. Depending on the yield, there may be some movement after A10, and after the first tuition payment is due.

In the last several years, most schools haven’t gone to the waitlist, however it does happen from time to time (look at Stargirl) for example.

I wouldn’t pester the admissions people now, but if there are any significant updates or changes in situation then it might warrant a short written note. If there are others who can reach out to admissions on your behalf (guidance counselor, consultant, principal, coach, etc) then sometimes you may be able to get some more information on your chances.

I agree with @ChoatieMom … to an extent. If and this a big if, you had a major new accomplishment, I would update them through a GC or similar professional. The challenge is defining “major.” 99.99% of new accomplishments will not be “major.” In my mind, it’s a major national or state accomplishment. Winning an Academy Award, or a Nobel Peace Prize warrants an update; being named captain of the MS softball team does not.

Having said that, the chances of getting off the waitlist are beyond slim, so hopefully you have a backup plan in place.

No I don’t. The students who email the update of being named softball captain will be remembered, but not in a good way.
