Waitlisted students 2010

I noticed there wasn’t a thread for waitlisted students for the year 2010, except for the ones that were amalgamated into other threads. Anyway, it’s about time we started one. Basically to discuss what our options are now, and possibly stats. I’d love to hear back from the gap year/waitlistees/Internationals. So…yeah.

I know there’s one other girl accepted to Bryn Mawr from my school. It’s not my place to speak on the matter, but, and as she stated before: “Bryn Mawr ranks second to last on my list” out of a list of 13 colleges. She applied to a long list of Ivies, a few in-state safeties to please her parents (including Bryn Mawr and Smith), and other colleges she considered more “prestigious” than BMC and SC. However, after she was rejected by all of the Ivies, her final list of “considered” colleges boils down to Johns Hopkins, Bryn Mawr, and University of Michigan. UofM is a fine institution. It’s last on her list because the thought of staying in-state is absurd. She never fell in “love” with Bryn Mawr. Describing it as the “lesbian” school. Her dream school was UPenn–Wharton. Of course, she thinks she can major in UPenn’s Business program. She’s interested in UPenn, NOT Bryn Mawr. She may have had a change of heart. What with the location being out-of-state. I truly feel as if someone else, who was swept up by the winds of sisterhood, traditions, and what BRYN MAWR has to off (NOT UPENN), deserves to be admitted. So, I wish those of you on the waitlist the best of luck! :)

I hope no one takes this post negatively, as I’m not trying to start a riot.

Isn’t Johns Hopkins in another state too? =/ Forgive me. I’m an international student.

You make a good point, CMK92. Honestly speaking. BMC wasn’t at the top of my list either. But then it was neither at the bottom. I had a couple of top choices, and then schools that were all on the same level. Now that I’ve been waitlisted, I’ve researched some more and found that BMC meets a lot of my requirements and may be the perfect fit after all. Frankly, I feel a lot of people choose BMC for the tri-co and Upenn aspect of it, and not because it too is amongst the top LACs. I really wouldn’t mind studying in a women’s college, seeing as to how I’ve attended single-sex schools all my life (and for the record, I am NOT a lesbian :P).

A question though. I’ve posted this elsewhere but have yet to receive an answer: BMC is need-aware for internationals. So the amount of aid you ask for determines your position on the waitlist? Take, for instance, me. My family pretty much can’t contribute anything. Would that make thingts harder for me then say, a weaker candidate who’s willing to partially fund herself through college?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

Colleges use waitlists for enrollment management. They are not only striving for a certain number of students but a balanced student body: academically, geographically, socioeconomically, extra-curricular interest-wise, etc. Once the first round of students accepted their offer of admission, the college might find that they need more classics majors or soccer players or someone who might run for student body president. That’s where the waitlist comes in.

You are right that limited financial aid resources for international students might prevent them from accepting you, but there are a lot of variables beyond finances. Getting off the waitlist is a bit like winning the lottery - impossible to predict.

Good luck to you! Please let us know how things turn out!!!

Thanks B@r!um  Will do. I’m working on my letter of interest and will send after a thorough review of it. After that, it’s just crossed fingers and prayers till mid-may.

I wish you the best of luck! And writing really is a good thing.

Thanks ayamicstarfish

So how long does this waitlisting thing take anyway? And how exactly do we find out if we’ve gotten in or not? Has anyone of the waitlisted applicants heard back from BMC?

Not yet. In fact, none of my letters has been replied.

Letters to bryn mawr?

I wrote a really long one and I received a reply, telling me to keep in mind that they’re hoping to admit some students off the wait list by mid-may.

I just checked my virtual Bryn Mawr today, and to my surprise, I saw “Congratulations!”

I’ve never written a letter and I was soooooo surprised when I saw I’ve been admitted. Also, I still cannot view my financial aid status, which really makes me frustrated because if I will go or not really depends on the FA I get…

That is really exciting news!

My admission status is still waitlist…

I hope I can receive congratulation soon…

xbg2014 That’s great news! Congratulations!!!

How much aid exactly did you ask for? Are you contributing anything of your own?

Has anybody else heard from Bryn Mawr yet?

I just got off the waitlist for Bryn Mawr recently too! and I am attending!! I hope all of you get off the waitlist too!!!

For some reason!! this still seems like a dream to me! idk when reality will hit!!
Also XBG2014 i couldnt see my financial aid the first day either!! but my dad saw it the next day!!
you should check again!! also it will be in your admission packet!!

Bluchic92, how exactly did you find out? Did they call you, or did you check your virtual bryn mawr account?

Also, when did you find out?

I found out May 12th they sent me an email and then i checked virtual bryn mawr.

Hello, Bluechic92) congrats to you !!! do you know, is BMC still reviewing the waitlist applications? are there some chances to get off the list in summer?

Bella, did you receive the last email from Bryn Mawr asking you if you still wanted to be on the waitlist? There might be chances, but we’ll never know for sure until they tell us they’ve closed the list. You should call them and ask, though.

“We should have more information about the wait list in the next few weeks. Thanks for your continued interest in Bryn Mawr.”

I think that the “more information” part is going to be the closing of the list, but that’s just my guess. I hate being in admissions limbo as much as you do, lol.
