Although my username gives away my first choice school, I really do like Caltech and it was a close second. I do have other schools I am waiting to hear back from and that I got into but Caltech would be my top choice. I know the odds are slim but I would still like to try and do whats possible, at least if those actions have some benefit to me in general. Is there anything I could do to help my chances of getting off the waitlist? I am a black girl that doesn't have the most impressive resume at the moment. Also if it wasn't clear I got rejected from MIT.

I currently plan on sending in my school "research" paper and some (videos of)electronic trinkets I made. I would love any and all advice. And don't worry I know that I probably won't be getting off of the list.

If there is an extra recommendation from someone who knows you well, you can send that. If you have done something impressive since your application (obviously, you impressed admissions enough to be considered for WL), send that.

Good luck to you. Its a long wait but Caltech is a wonderful school.

Unless there is something new that you need to show, do not send it. State your interest, but do not pester them or send them material that does not add any thing more that what is already there. In other words, if you have already sent them a reserach paper, and all you are doing is to send version 1.1, then I probably would not send it. If you have new research that has not been mentioned before, then you should. Sending them a video appears more like a gimmick. You could send them photos instead of asking them to view something, unless the video is really needed to explain it.

Unfortunately, there have been years where Caltech has taken no one off the wait list. Good luck

here is some advice you can look at
