I’m not saying that I absolutely should have been accepted, but I did get into UT Austin which in my opinion is a lot harder to get into. I also don’t live in Texas which made an acceptance from UT less likely

Opinions?

Did you submit your application prior to deadline? I am sure UT would love your out of state tuition

I know there has been a sharp increase in applications to Baylor I the past couple of years and I am sure this years visibility as Big 12 champs continued that trend.

Hang in there!

Yah really confused why I was waitlisted when my peers with lower scores got in.
They offered me a select-status application, in-state resident
2180 SAT and sent in recommendations and everything, a little disappointed right now…

Do you mind sharing what major you declared?

P. S. I’m just wondering if the competitiveness of the program/major you were applying to explains why someone with your credentials wasn’t accepted. And perhaps someone with lesser credentials got in because they applied to a less competitive program (not sure if that’s how it works… just wondering).

I also just found out I got waitlisted, but I assume it’s because I displayed a blatant lack of interest. I used their select-status application because it was free. I already knew I couldn’t afford to actually go to the school, so I never submitted any of the supplemental materials. I just didn’t care.

UW GPA: 3.9
SAT:2010

I have considerable ECs, but what I wrote above is pretty much all they know about me. While I know I never would have been able to attend, even if I had been accepted, it’s kind of disappointing not to be able to say I was accepted by every university to which I applied. First world problems…

Interesting… I know that there are some schools that definitely track your interest and that it may influence admission, Tulane is the one that comes to mind. As discussed in another thread the yield on admissions last year may have changed the mix of admit/wait this year.

And @That0therGuy, if getting wait listed at a school you had no intention of attending is the biggest problem you run into during your college selection process, congratulations!

My daughter was accepted with lower scores into the Computer Science program, so I was wondering if her selection of major made it easier for her to get in. I can’t imagine why she got in when the OP didn’t… not that I’m complaining! Just wondering what the difference is.

Thanks for the feedback so far! To @RobinLBA for Baylor I applied undeclared to the college of arts and sciences. But for the rest of my schools I did apply to their respective business schools. The reason I chose to go undeclared is because I know that Baylor has great pre-med and pre-optometry programs. If I ended up going to Baylor I would go because of their pre-med/pre-optometry programs. Hope this makes sense…

My D is a 4.0 student, 2130 SAT, NM Finalist, AP Scholar with distinction, varsity athlete etc etc and was wait-lited with Baylor… I guess they are trying to make themselves seem more selective!

@robinLBA I applied as undeclared arts and science major

@dukemd, what major and when did she apply?

She applied as undecided. She applied I believe in December regular decision. There are multiple sections on the application that are listed as “optional” and I would say that they are optional only if you don’t want to be accepted. She has since completed and placed herself on waitlist given that she is NMF. She is also college varsity level golfer and has acceptances at Quinnipiac, Univ Illinois Springfield, Sewanee, Centre, Depauw, Southwestern U, ASU, Grinnell, and others looking at her at DI and DII level so this actually assists in the decision making process! She was not being recruited by Baylor for golf…

This is all very interesting. My daughter was homeschooled through 10th grade, and then I put her in dual credit at the community college where she has 35 hours with a GPA there of about 3.7. Nothing outstanding, only got a 25 on her ACT. She responded to an email inviting her to apply… Baylor Select Application… paid no application fee and did not have to write an essay. Applied mid to late January, and had an acceptance just a week or so later. She applied to Computer Science. I’m wondering if a decided major is the difference? Clearly her stats are not nearly as strong as others who were wait listed.

Sounds like they may be trying to tighten up the yield numbers a little. @dukeMD, had she visited or had any communications with the university? My D who is now a Baylor freshman had applied early but had been on campus at 3 registered events prior to applying as well as the local Baylor Joe meeting and had established communications with the regional recruiter.

They have accepted their allotted number of students already and are forced to put them on a waiting list. However 300-500 students will NOT go to Baylor and others will get their spot.

My D contacted via email the Baylor admissions to request them to go ahead and place on her on the waitlist and also ask them for a read as to why she was not accepted - she was concerned that the admissions folks may not have received all of the information for a complete application. It seemed to the admissions officer that her application may not have been thoroughly reviewed and that she would be admitted in a couple weeks. So those on the waitlist may want to make some inquiries as well as request waitlist status.

@dukemd, that’s great news!

If your daughter is interested in visiting and meeting with other NM there be sure to contact the honors dept. My daughter and her roomie, both NMF, recently hosted a perspective student for 2 days, staying in the HRC, taking her to their class, eating in cafeteria and such.

Thank you @mytwods!

UPDATE (to anyone who was interested): I recently got off of the wait list at Baylor. When I asked my admissions counselor what the reason was for being waitlisted he said that by the time I applied, they had already filled up their class.
